Lightbulb Venus and Wimbledon

Here's a simple question: How many more will she win?

I remember back in 2001, reading articles about the same question being asked. She was a 21-year-old who had just won back-to-back Wimbledon titles.

This year, she will be a 29-year-old chasing after her 6th title. Forget about what's happened in the past, let's look to the future and see where she can get to.

I don't think anyone will disagree that she's one of the best players on tour right now and the best player on grass.

She obviously loves Wimbledon and is motivated to do well there more than anywhere else.

The question is can she win her 6th this year? 7? 8? 9? 10?

When you look at 9 or 10 Wimbledons, people will think IMPOSSIBLE. That's the first word that I'm sure people will think of.

But guess what? By her 29th birthday, Martina Navratilova had 6 Wimbledons. That's only 1 more than Venus.

I definitely think that if she's healthy, Venus can get a crack at that record, at least looking at equally it.

I don't think it's impossible or unrealistic at all.

What do you guys think?

Divas: Seles, Sharapova, Muguruza
Pas de Quatre:
Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Coppélia

Re: Venus and Wimbledon

Well if its true that she will play until 2012, that leaves 4 wimbledons left - meaning at best she can equal Martina' record, but not surpass it. I think she has another 1 or 2 wimbledons left in her, but who knows. Serena seems to have a new found motivation in the past year or so, and I'm sure she would like to add to those two wimbledon throphies. And of course (fully fit) Sharapova is more motivated at wimbledon than any other event in the world...

Kuznetsova

... for some reason.

I see her getting 2 or 3 more, I would love 5 more, but I doubt it sadly.

Re: Venus and Wimbledon

She'll have a shot for as long as she has her footspped. That's the only constraint to me. She is equal to Federer now, I can see her equalling the Sampras's 7.. Any further? That's probably a stretch. I still think ( and hope ) that in career legacy she ends up above her sister,

Re: Venus and Wimbledon

i think she can tie Sampras/Steffi, or maybe do one better.
But, If she were to tie with Martina, i would die a happy woman. Martina would prolly be there rooting against her though, lol.

Re: Venus and Wimbledon

If she win this year, she coud tie Sampras.
Else, it could be difficult, but not impossible.

I would love for her to win another USO.

Venus is definitely a force to reckon with at Wimbledon. I guess her game is really suitable in grass!

I thought Capriati was the best on "grass"?

Re: Venus and Wimbledon

I really doubt she'll win more than 2 or 3, too bad she didn't start winning there until 20yrs old Can you imagine though how devastated Martina N. would be if VENUS broke her record? You think that bish is bitter NOW? You haven't seen nothing yet

Really, don't even look at me...

Re: Venus and Wimbledon

2 or 3.
The thing that could help her is that there is not many young players playing well on grass so she will be superior for a long time.
