I am asking because watching Yoon Jeong Cho today she had a beautiful silver cross necklace on, that I see a lot of Christians here in the states wearing.

I know Korea and Japan are into Shinto, Hindu, and Buddhism, with a few Christians. Am I right?

A good website about religions in Korea:
http://www.pbs.org/hiddenkorea/religion.htm

"Today, almost forty percent of Koreans are Protestants, divided into 113 denominations."

Wow. That is a big surprise to me. I thought almost all Koreans are buddhists.

The Japanese are Non-practicing Buddhists.
Shinto is more about rituals, and folklore. They
practice Shinto things; like buying amulets, but
for the most part they aren't very religious.

In Korea the post War generation are Christians.
If you go to the country side- you'll find Buddhists.
The older people of Korea are Buddhists. Again,
like the Japanese they have alot of sub religious
groups that like rituals, folklore, worshipping
tree gods, etc...

Over here in Singapore. Christianity is popular
among wealthy Chinese families.

Greenout hit it about right IMO. Christians dominate the capital city and the elite. Korean-Americans are overwhelmingly Christian.

Korea is the only Asian nation besides the Phillipines where Christians can claim to be a majority or nearly so. One theory behind that is that many Koreans joined churches as a sort of protest against Japan when they were a colony.

If you're into Buddhism Korea has great temples hidden away in mountains. If you enjoyed temples combined with hiking it's paradise!

I forgot to ask-how well did Cho play? I didn't see it Does anyone think she can climb into the top 50? 20? Did she have weapons?

The best Korean female was Duk-Hee Lee in the 80s. She was never really better than about 50 or so in rankings I think.

Yoon Jeong will be about #66 in a week.

She is very consistent, great retriever, with a good forehand. Serve can use some work....but so can most folks below the top 40. She will probably make top 50 IMO.

Also....her attitude is impeccable! I love it!

I think she CAN be top 50 as well. She looked solid and quick-a-foot.

I found this on South Korea in the CIA factbook :

Religions: Christian 49%, Buddhist 47%, Confucianist 3%, Shamanist, Chondogyo (Religion of the Heavenly Way), and other 1%

49% ! I didn't know there were so many Christians.
