Dubai QF: Wimbledon Champion Venus def. Defending and OG Champ Elena 6-3 6-3

Elena, bad match

just 8 winners to 17 UE DF's at 3-3 didn't help at all

second set was fun though

congrats Vee, pls make the final

Venus def Elena 6-3 6-3

Venus totally outplayed Elena in the first, but in the second it was a really tough battle; more errors from Venus, more winners from Elena but Venus won the important points and advances.

Re: Venus def. Elena 63 63

Venus This result is as it should be
can anyone tell me what Venus was doing with her 2nd serves today? I couldn't watch the match, but I saw on the scoreboard she had a low 1st serve % yet Dementieva was unable to win most of Venus' 2nd serve points...

Re: Venus def. Elena 63 63

Congrats, Vee.

Dementieva only had one winner in the first set!

Second set was really close. Except that Dementieva double faulted twice to give up the break.

Anyhow, what was Elena yelling about when she missed service return when Venus was serving at *4-3? And what was she yelling about at *3-5 on her serve?

Quote:
19. In the period from January to April 2006 Dr. Skalny sent very detailed messages to Ms Sharapova [...]: “Mildronate 1-2 X 10, repeat in 2 wks (before training or competition)”; “1 hr before competition, 2 pills of Mildronate”; “During games of special importance, you can increase your Mildronate dose to 3-4 pills (1 hr before the match). However, it is necessary to consult me on all these matters (please call)”; “30 minutes prior to a training session: Mildronat – 1 Capsule. 30-45 minutes prior to a tournament Mildronat 2 capsules”.

Re: Venus def. Elena 63 63

Despite the two sets having the same scoreline, the first one was actually far more one-sided than the second. Elena just couldn't impose herself - I believe she hit only 1 winner in the opening set? And unfortunately for her the serve once again became ragged at crucial points in the match.

Solid if unspectacular performance from Venus.

Re: Venus def. Elena 63 63

Expected result. Venus is just the most horrible opponent for Elena. If only there were no serves in tennis.

Now rest up for IW/Miami, Elena.

Good luck against little sis, Venus.

1st set was meh, the only good thing about it was the fact that Venus won

second was more dramatic , some really cool points .

Lena needs to get a long rest now. She was clearly very tired.

Well done Venus. She was serving huge and defending so well.
