Marta Domachowska blogging from the AO

As you all might know, I was defeated in the 1st round by Sania Mirza in straight sets. I expected quite the contrary to be honest. I wanted to do my best, I wanted to play with the same ease as last year. The match was not nice to watch, we both made lots of mistakes. We have been hitting together a couple of times on practice courts and we know each other very well. We definitely were not on top of our game. In the 2nd set I led 4-2 before I lost my service game twice. I just couldn't hold my serve. No doubt, my serve is the first thing to work on. In the past, I used to win dozens of free points with my serve, my serve always helped me to take the initiative. Now, my serve is shaky, I make too many double faults. Yes, I am feeling low and disappointed, but this is sport - it goes one way or the other. Time to get down to work!

Poor Marta

Marta
She made too many mistakes in her first round, otherwise there was no way she could've lost to a mediocre player ranked 100 in the world

Nice and open comment from Marta. I know she made a lot od double faults, but I am not sure if serve is what she should work on. Her serve and game I think are fine, but her head is not. I mean the girl succumbs to pressure iummediately. She is entirely different player without the pressure. Maybe she should meditate? I really don't know, but she gets too nervous. If she took care of that she would be well inside top 20 if not better.

The best of luck to all tennis players; The game is on!

P.S.Well,... special luck to Agnieszka Radwanska, Marta Domachowska, Daniela Hantuchova, Urszula Radwanska

Re: Marta Domachowska blogging from the AO

I have not seen pictures of Marta from the AO.

I know she had a very spectacular photoshoot, recently.
She looked gorgeous. She looked rather thin, compared to pictures taken earlier in the year--understandable, given demands of the fashion industry.

Is there any chance that her lower weight, (assuming it still is), could affect the power of her serve, and her overall endurance?

I don't think this is the case, at least not the reason for her recent losses. I agree with AndreConrad that Marta comes our nervous and has hard time maintaining accuracy. I don't know what can be done about it, but she certainly should see a therapist. The problem with therapists is that 1. He has to be good (there is very few of them) and 2. Even if he is good the patient has to trust him to be honest with him and that is a challenge. I like Marta very much, but I am not sure if she will be able to address her issues.
