Which group of players will be most successful at AO/2009???

Former Multiple Australian Open finalists (Multiple_AO-F):
Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo, Marat Safin

One Time Australian Open finalists from past (Once_AO-F):
Novak Djokovic, Venus Williams, Ana Ivanovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Lleyton Hewitt, Fernando Gonzalez, Marcos Baghdatis, Rainer Schüttler, Carlos Moya.

Players which never before played in Australian Open final (Never_Before_AO-F):
Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Jelena Jankovic, Dinara Safina, Elena Dementieva, Svetlna Kuznetsova... and all others ATP/WTA players from AO/09 Main Draw.

PREVIOUS SEASONS RECAP's:
2008: Never_Before_AO-F dominate (Djokovic-W, Tsonga-F, Ivanovic-F...), followed by Once_AO-F (Sharapova-W)
2007: Multiple_AO-F dominate (Federer-W, Serena-W), followed by Never_Before_AO-F (Gonzalez-F, Sharapova-F)
2006: Once_AO-F dominate (Mauresmo-W, Henin-F), followed by Multiple_AO-F (Federer-W)
2005: Once_AO-F dominate (Serena-W, Davenport-F), followed by Multiple_AO-F (Safin-W)
2004: Never_Before_AO-F dominate (Federer-W, Henin-W, Clijsters-F), followed by Once_AO-F (Safin-F)
2003: Never_Before_AO-F dominate (Serena-W, Venus-F, Shuttler-F), followed by Multiple_AO-F (Agassi-W)
...etc...

***"Dominating" Group is obviously Group of 1) Most Winners, 2) Most Runner-Ups... if again is tied... 3) most Semifinalists

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Re: Which group of players will be most successful at AO/2009???

According to bookmakers all three groups have reasons for big expectations:

William Hill Odds (Under 20 Only!):
Multiple_AO-F: Federer 3.5, Serena 3.5
Once_AO-F: Venus 4.5, Djokovic 6.5, Ivanovic 8.0, Tsonga 13
Never_Before_AO-F: Murray 3.0, Nadal 4.5, Jankovic 7.0, Safina 11, Dementieva 15

Sorry because i forced people here to use brain more than usual, instead to open another "classics" GM Poll (for example "Which Sisters will be most successful at AO/2009???, Williams, Radwanska or Bondarenko)

I think people who have not made the final before will dominate (Safina and Muzza for the title )

Then the other two groups following equally.

Vera Zvonareva * Ana Ivanović * Li Na * Laura Robson ......

Personally i think Murray and Nadal chances is most overrated right now. Nadal at slams won 5 clay's in the row but in same period at 10 hardcourts GS's (USO & AO) he not reach any final (for example at Wimbledon grass he reach last 3 finals) - so Rafa is obviously not same great player at hardcourts. Murray reach one GS final, won one warm-up tournament and that is enough to be bigger title contender than Federer, Djokovic and Nadal BTW he won that tournament last season also but at AO lose 1st round match.

I didn't say that Nadal or Murray will not win for sure this seasons AO, but theirs chances is atm little bit overrated IMO.

I don't see any surprise finalist on the women side.
It's clearly between Venus, Serena, Jelena, Dinara and perhaps Elena.
Maybe players such as Azarenka, Wozniacki, Cibulkova could do extremley well but they will be down before the final.

On the men side, Australia is always wild. Who knows.

My opinion is totally oposite.

Dementieva at AO final will be big surprise for me. She is 28yo and her previous AO results are: 2-3-3-4-1-1-4-1-4-4 (played 10, never reach Quarterfinal). BTW don't be too shocked if you notice in final this season some girl out of this 8 which you mentioned .

On other hand with Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray like TOP4 seeds any other ATP player will have two of this big-4 in their half, so i simple dont see anybody to survive that "double wall". Nadal and Murray improve theirs game since last january, and Federer is healthy (unlike last AO). So i really dont see any surprising ATP AO finalist this time.

I think you're basing your oppinions too much on previous years, rather than current form.

Nadal: It's pointless to loos to far back as the court surface has changed and is now much slower with a higher bounce, you cannot deny that his suits his game well. He made the SF here last year loosing to an on fire Tsonga, who played out of his mind that day. Nadal is undoubtedly a better player than this time last year as was shown by his 07 season. If he plays his best I can't see too many people stopping him.

Murray: You're forgetting his form his last part of the season was amazing winning Cincinnati, Madrid and St. Petersburg, his loss to Davydenko was sue to fatigue. He also made the final of a Slam so will have more experience now. Plus already this year he has beaten Federer (twice) and Nadal, add to that the fact that Novak does not seem to be playing well at all. His confidence is so high at the moment who will stop him?

Vera Zvonareva * Ana Ivanović * Li Na * Laura Robson ......

For me Nadal and Murray both well deserved to be part of AO/09 BIG-4 favorites for title, but i dont agree that only slamless player out of this 4 Andy is favorite #1 and that "never reach HC GS final" Rafa has almost same chances for victory like "8-time GS HC Champion" Federer.

That is my point.
