USA or AUSTRALIA. Who will be a stronger force on the tour in 5 years time?

In five years time, who will be stronger in womens tennis, Australia or the United States?
Apart from Venus and Serena, the United States have 2 TOP 100 women. Australia also has 2, but 4 including Rodionova and Gajdosova who are both seeking citizenship.
I've been thinking about when the Williams Sisters do retire, where with the US rank among the best tennis countries in the world, and will they still be ahead of Australia?

Discuss.

Re: USA or AUSTRALIA. Who will be a stronger force on the tour in 5 years time?

interesting question - USA will lose Serena and Venus = and davenport is gone. Raymond and Shaughnessy will be gone.

Australia will lose Rennae Stubbs but Stosur and Dellacqua will still be around and both have big weapons unlike the americans King Harkleroad and Mattek. Who knows what Dokic will be doing, probably retired but we also will have Gajdosova and Rodionova as well as Jessica Moore and Isabella Holland who have a lot of potential.

so i guess Australia will be stronger, assuming Stosur, Gajdosova and Dellacqua will be still around and all 3 are still on the rise and all have big games. also, all three are very strong doubles players...

time will tell

no USA will be stronger Serena could still be playing, same with Venus maybe.

there will also be the resurgence of Jill Craybas

and some confident playing by Alexandra Stevenson

Hopefully Australia, but with our luck probably not. Isabella Holland, Jessica Moore, Olive Rogowska and Monika Wejnert have been showing promising signs this year but it is still a big step for them to get anywhere near the top 100. Sam and Casey should be around for a while and who knows, maybe Jelena Dokic and Sophie Ferguson can get in to the top 100. Then we have Jarmilla who will hopefully get excepted to play for Australia soon.

Looking at it like that, the future looks OK. Not expecting many of things to happen though...not with Australia's luck. Not sure about the American juniors but I am sure they have many looking to make the rise as well.

I think the USA probably would be.

Bethanie Mattek has the game to hit the top 20. Vania King has the game to be a top 10 doubles player. Coco Vandeweghe will be a presence on tour by then and Jill Craybas will probably still be playing 5 years from now.
You've obviously get Dellacqua and Gajdosova with Australia, but it doesn't seem like there's a girl coming up who would do exceedingly well on tour to help them.

USA, they have a few good junrios who are started their senior career.

But then they also have Vickery and the other 1995 girl who both look extremely promising. Mybe by the time Vee and Serena go they will be there to replace them

GOOD LUCK IN 2014 GB TENNIS GIRLS

5 years from now the tour will probably be dominated by Europeans. For the US the best prospect seems to be Coco Vandeweghe. I see tough times coming for US tennis though once the Williams retire. I don't think Australia will fare much better. Of the current crop playing I don't see any top 10 potential.

It will be Europe that dominates although I wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years time the balance of tennis power shifts a little more to Western Europe.

Re: USA or AUSTRALIA. Who will be a stronger force on the tour in 5 years time?

Probably the US.

In 5 years time Stosur will be 30. I think Dokic and Gajdosova have the best games to do well in Grand Slams and big events, but I don't really see Moore, Ferguson, Rodionova or any of the other girls getting there and being major prospects.

The US always seems to have prospects who step up when desperately needed, which is what it will be when Venus and Serena retire unless someone comes along before they do both retire. Coco Vandeweghe seems to have a big future especially. But ultimately, the US has more depth than Australia does in WTA players, so there's a much higher chance of someone breaking through and saving the US rather than Australia.

It will be interesting to see, because you never know who just might come along.
