Question About YEC

Are the groups divided like this:

1,3,5,7

and

2,4,6,8

because if so:

Jelena, Serena, Ana, and Venus are all going to be in the same group

is this how the YEC is drawn, or is it random?

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Been around the world, copped all 4 thrice.

Re: Question About YEC

Here's how they do it (from the WTA Rule book):

Singles
(a) Place seed 1 in Group A and seed 2 in Group B.
(b) To determine the placement of the remaining seeds,
draw in pairs as follows:
(i) Seeds 3 and 4 (place 1st drawn seed in Group A
and remaining seed in Group B).
(ii) Seeds 5 and 6 (place 1st drawn seed in Group A
and remaining seed in Group B).
(iii) Seeds 7 and 8 (place 1st drawn seed in Group A
and remaining seed in Group B).

Re: Question About YEC

Someone explained to me that the players are paired by their ranking. 1&2, 3&4, 5&6 and 7&8. One player from each pairing is drawn into group. So you could have 1, 3, 5 & 7 or 1, 4, 6 & 7 or 1, 3, 6 & 8 etc. It depends on the draw. I hope I made sense!
