Kipritidou anyone?

Anyone ever heard of Nickoleta Kipritidou of Greece? What ever happened to her? When she was 18 in August of 2004, she was ranked 677 in the world, and was expected to have a big future. She hasn't played a match since November of 2004, shortly after she turned 19. Did she die? Did she retire?

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Being ranked #677 when you are not a junior anymore doesn't really look that promising

But I, being poor, have only my dreams
I have spread my dreams under your feet

Well not for a future top 10 player, but maybe for a player with a decent rank. Look at Julie Ditty.

Yes sure, why not? But on the other hand for every "Julie Ditty" there are hundreds of players who retired like Nickoleta. She wasn't that strong mentally to hang in there or maybe she wasn't that good as you assume she was...

Ifound these pics of her: http://ifoto0.tripod.com/ifotohtm/kip3036i.htm

spiceboy, maybe you're right. I just never heard of a player at age 18 ranked 677 retiring. I've heard of players at age 21 ranked 1500 retiring, but not this low. Maybe she got tired of tennis, or maybe she got injured. She is just 23 now, so she can still make a successful comeback.

Speaking only of Spaniards I can tell you of a lot of players who retired in the last few years when they got stuck between the 250-350 rankings. And they were all 18/19/20 yo...Adriana González Peñas, Marta Fraga Pérez, Astrid Waernes García, Lucía Jiménez Almendros, María José Sánchez Alayeto...

So believe me, that ranking of that Kipritidou means basically nothing. Sorry to be that harsh
