I don't really see Jelena finishing number one. She has had a great season but I still think Serena and Dinara are the likelier candidates. I'd say 50% Serena 40% Dinara and 10% Jelena.

What are ana's chances?

Im happy for Safina.
Who would have thought that she will be a serious contender for number 1 this year when she started this season as low as rank # 15.

Its pretty amazing to me

If Serena doesnt withdraw from her current schedule...
she would end at number 1...

Safina can consistently reach the latter stages of any tournaments...

While Jankovic is the same as Safina...
but shes less aggressive..

Serena at 11 tournaments still in contention

She really should have played Tokyo!

YEC will probably be the decider!

I think Serena will get it, just eeking out Safina at the YEC. I wouldn't be surprised if Safina is actually #1 going into the YEC.

There's something wrong in the WTA. I mean Dinara or Janko having a chance at finishing #1 is just sick. Whoever has not won a GS doesn't deserve to be #1. Just look at the ATP TOUR...

Re: Who will be 2008 Year-End Number 1?

safina has won three tier one events, and jankovic is consistent. serena reached the final of two grand slams BUT doesn't play enough.

If you want to end the year number one, you should have to play at least 14 or 15 tournies.

the no 1 rank is for supporting the tour
both rafa and federer play 17 to 18 tournaments a year
if serena hardly plays more than 13 tournaments a year unless she is extraordinarily good there is no way any ranking can put her as no 1 even average of 17 wont do that

If you're not paying for something, then you're the product.
