Which Match Has Been The Most Traumatic For Your Fave Player?

in terms of impact for the next few months, maybe even the year.

the following five immediately come to mind:

jelena's loss to henin at the uso 2006.
henin's loss to masha at the ao 2008.
s. williams' loss to masha at w 2004.
masha's loss to s. williams at the ao 2007.
ivanovic's loss to zheng at w 2008.

which of these do you think have had the most impact? is there any other match you can think of that might involve your favourite player?

Hingis' loss to Serena or Graf 1999.

There are very few traumatic, truly, losses for players. Most rebound well and move on with their careers.

Myskina's loss to Henin in Athens is probably the biggest example I can come up with. Nothing else named so far truly strikes me as "traumatic," bar Hingis' loss to Graf in that FO F.

Ana loss to Zheng wasn't traumatic, she had been awful the entire tournament. It wasn't that loss that made her start playing bad.

Agreed, we can only guess as to what exactly that loss did to Serena, but I think it was definitely her most humiliating and probably the one she regrets the most. She would have been the only woman since Steffi Graf to win three Wimbledons in a row. As it is she hasn't won it since Masha snapped her 20 match winning streak there. I really think that loss was a catalyst to a few other big losses that season where Serena started strongly but began to doubt herself at some stage.

(4) There is no path to victory for Williams.Keys wins in straight easy sets.

Venus losing to Mauresmo at 2003 Warsaw, because she severely injured her abdominal which affected her the rest of the year and maybe even her career
Venus losing to Myskina at 2004 French, that was her year to win it

I have a couple more. The 1999 FO loss to Graf - absolutely, but her loss to Serena in the USO Final that year is equally bad IMO. She played an awesome match to beat Venus in the Semis and had a set point in the second set!! before folding. I think if she won that match the FO loss wouldn't be seen nearly as bad.

2001 AO Final - Hingis owned Cappy until this point, and was on an uber-high after beating the Sisters back to back. Epic fail for the rest of 2001.

2002 AO Final - If Martina won this match I think she would have played at least two more years on tour. I think she would have taken the full time to heal from her ankle injury instead of rushing back and trying to play in the US Open and it would have healed fully/better.

Re: Which Match Has Been The Most Traumatic For Your Fave Player?

JJ tends to bounce back from bad defeats pretty well, but the loss to Ana at RG this year was a bad one. Never mind Jelena, I don't think I've recovered from that one yet...

Jelena Jankovic

Nicole Vaidisova Daniela Hantuchova Maria Kirilenko Maria Sharapova
Kim Clijsters Anne Keothavong Elena Baltacha
