what if henin......

just played her beloved clay court season each year
would she be allowed

like if she didn't want to play on the tour again but missed it and was selective about what she did-like practice. play a few warm up tournaments.then play the french-voila bagged another title kind of thing.disappeaared

seriously she'd be more than capabale

i still can't get over her retirement-THEE story of 2008

and to think she still had 2 titles in 2008 (is that right) and is still among the highest title winners despite retiring so early in the year

ah well wishful thinking

She'll be back! But unlike her previous success the path to reach her best level will be tougher. Justine was already starting to lose confidence in her game before retiring so it will be interesting to see if her comeback lives up to the hype.

I don't think she would just play clay season and nothing else.

I wish she would come back and just play some dubs. She has a great game for it, and it wouldn't be the pressure packed singular approach required for singles top level play. Or even mixed. She just needs to get on the court again, but avoid the bubble world of singles tour and the grind that goes along with it.

If she were to come back it should be as soon as possible. Too much time off will hurt her game and make it more difficult for her body to get back into shape for tennis. She should play the tournaments she really liked. I would like to see her play at least one of the European indoor tournaments she won last year. She has no points to defend and is not ranked, so could even start out playing tier 3 or 4 torunaments. She could play Gold Coast, AO, Dubai, Indian Wells, tank Miami in round one, Charleston, Berlin, Paris, Wimbledon, Canada, USO, then one Euro indoor, and if all goes well, the YEC. Ranking shold not be her concern, just Slams and enjoying tennis. Just hoping?

Re: what if henin......

It's been said, in many a sport, that you don't retire because you don't want to play. YOu retire because you don't want to prepare. Now consider Henin the als. o-ran, and Henin the multi-GS champ. Henin had to drive herself, to tiptop physical condition to win slam. Being in that kind of shape 12 months a year is HARD. And she seemed to reach the point where she didn't want to do it anymore.

I don't think Henin will be back. Not because the ability isn't there. Not because the desire isn't there. But because the will to sacrifice isn't there.

It's a totally different sport, but the current UFC light-heavyweight champ recently said, in passing, that he could, 'take more pain than anybody'. That's an extremely useful attribute to have. Henin had it. For a while. But I don't think it's worth it to her anymore.

That's my personal opinion. The other possiblity is that she was a steroid case, and realized that wrecking her body wasn't worth it.

Henin is like Steffi. She follows through with her decisions. She is not flaky. We won't see her back.
