Can you imagine how hard is it to play wheelchair tennis??

I watched some wheelchair tennis matches of Paralympics on cctv5 these days, it's really really hard I think, you need to move the wheelchair and strive to hit the ball. All these players show their spirits to us, I admire them so much! The spirits really inspire me and move me.

Re: Can you imagine how hard is it to play wheelchair tennis??

I'm sure it's very hard (at least at first), and it makes me thankful I am able bodied, because the athletes often get forgotten about and looked over for their achievements by the able bodied population. So it's nice to see threads like this.

Esther for gold.

There are a couple of Ok Aussies too, and a couple of French, but yeah not so many nationalities usually do so well in wheelchair tennis.

These pictures are quite inspiring and incredible if you ask me. It just makes you realise that no matter what state you are in, you can still utilise that disability to great use to achieve your goals that even abled bodied people cannot do. Just a matter of having a positive attitude and great work ethic to demonstrate that.

Re: Can you imagine how hard is it to play wheelchair tennis??

I've never seen wheelchair tennis but I have seen other wheelchair sports, like quad ruby or murderball as the competitors like to call it and I have assisted with a wheelchair lawn bowls. I admire them for having a go. Their stories are more inspiring than able-bodied body athletes. Good on you for starting this thread.

Re: Can you imagine how hard is it to play wheelchair tennis??

I wonder whether there are many long rallies? It seems very difficult to play when you have to move yourself using another hand while holding a racquet to play the ball. I guess if you can hit the ball hard and accurate, so the opponents have no time to move the wheelchair very fast. Just my opinion. And they do deserve more than people expect. Most people would think since they are disabled, their sport would be very easy. But I think it's the opposite. They have to work at least double effort than usual people to play well in their sport.

I hope to see wheelchair tennis. Is there such slip on Youtube?

The ball can bounce twice in wheelchair tennis - so they have a bit more time. You can have some rallies that way.

Re: Can you imagine how hard is it to play wheelchair tennis??

It's really inspiring what they do, and the tennis is good to watch aswell. I'd say the rallies in general are longer than the main tour. I left the Wimbledon Federer-Nadal final in 2007 to watch some of the wheelchair final and I found it more entertaining. The thing I loved the most was they try so hard.

I've seen some matches at the last 3 Aussie Opens - they are good to watch, and it is very inspiring.

Re: Can you imagine how hard is it to play wheelchair tennis??

Wheelchair tennis is great and I agree that they should get more attention in general. So many sports of disalbed people are being overshadowed...

I heard that wheelchair tennis has gotten way more athletic now and therefore it reportedly is getting tougher and tougher. But they often have entertainiun rallies. Haven't watched a match in ages though...

Jusat props to all those people living their dream!!
