Questions about tennis at these Olympics...

Do the players get rainking points now? Is this new or have they had this the past Olympics as well?

How come they are not showing any tennis on TV and won't be showing. I am in Germany and have Eurosport, but no tennis, and looked at the schedule, and no tennis still. Is there another channel, because I have many channels.

There was a third question, but I forgot

Re: Questions about tennis at these Olympics...

Yes there are ranking points being given out for the Olympics :
Men's ATP ranking points

Gold Medal - 400
Silver Medal - 280
Bronze Medal - 205
Loser 3rd/4th - 155
Quarterfinals - 100
Round of 16 - 50
Round of 32 - 25
1st Round - 5

Women's WTA ranking points

Gold Medal - 353
Silver Medal - 245
Bronze Medal - 175
Loser 3rd/4th - 135
Quarterfinals - 90
Round of 16 - 48
Round of 32 - 28
1st Round - 1

As far as TV schedule I find that in US we are barely getting any early rd coverage... today they showed Nadal vs Hewitt but thats about it. I dont know if you can access in Germany but if you can then you can go to the video section and narrow it down to tennis and there you will be able to watch coverage that they've saved from each Day. Hope that helps.

Serena Williams is and always will be one of the best tennis players in the world.

And then of course: Venus, Henin, and Sharapova

Ranking points didn't used to be awarded. I can't remember which Olympics they were first awarded in, maybe Sydney or Athens?!? It was supposed to encourage more top players to play. I remember the decision was controversial at the time ... and still continues to be for that matter.

Vivi & Conchita & Patricia & Paola 2004 Olympic Silver & Bronze medalists, Vivi & Anabel 2008 Olympic Silver medalists - congratulations!
