Help on Radwanska?

I just have a question about Agniezska as I have not watched her matches against these types of players to figure it out for myself. This thread is especially directed towards Malva and any other fans of Radwanska.

This has been on my mind for some time now, and in light of her recent loss against Schiavone I decided to present this to the fellow posters on this forum. It appears, to me at least, that Agnieszka has a problem with the non-powerhitting base of the WTATour. If you agree with this and are a fan of hers could you please explain to me why. Also, if you deny/refute this could you please explain why. Here is some background information for you to work with. Subsequently, this information caused me to propose this question.

vs. Peer : 2-1

6:0 2:0 retirement, Rome, clay - Peer.
6:4 6:1 US Open, hard - Peer.
6:4 6:3 Zurich, indoor carpet - Radwanska.

vs. Schnyder : 1-0

6:3 6:2 Charleston, green clay - Schnyder.

vs. Schiavone : 3-0

7:5 2:6 6:1, Luxembourg, indoor - Schiavone
6:3 6:4, Hasselt, indoor - Schiavone
6-3 7-6(6), Beijing, hard - Schiavone

vs. Chakvetadze [really, Aga, really?] : 2-0.

6:2 2:6 6:4 Dubai, hard - Chakvetadze.
6:4 1:6 6:1 Rome, clay - Chavetadze.

vs. Henin 2:0

6:4 6:1 Eastbourne, grass - Henin.
6:4 6:2 Zurich, indoor - Henin.

vs. Mauresmo 1:0

3:6 7:5 7:6(6) Amelia Island, green clay - Mauresmo.

Do you know what about these type of players bothers Radwanska?

Re: Radwanska postulate?

I'd also put in Zvonareva in that list. Their Moscow match was an absolute beatdown. She's 1-1 against Hantuchova too, but the Melbourne QF was outclassing Aga, too.

The easy answer: because she can't generate the pace off these player's shots as easily as she can when absorbing the pace off of a power player. However, that said, I think she's working on that. Against Schnyder, I saw that she was able to rip plenty of forehand winners down the line, so it's not like she's USELESS against these types of players, and can generate pace, but it clearly takes more out of her than playing a power player.

All that said, I'm just glad Franny beat her again.

Re: Radwanska postulate?

Thanks, Chris. What do you think she needs to add/change about her game to have better results against these types of players? I would think she wouldn't be threatened by these players, but obviously not.

Re: Radwanska postulate?

It's interesting that Aga had these problems with the relatively limited power players. Some people like to compare her to Martina but in this aspect they do seem different. Martina generally did pretty well against relatively limited power players in her career.

Btw, why is Henin included in that that list? She did hit with a lot of power ya know.

Re: Help on Radwanska?

2 first matches vs Schiavone were in 2006, Aga was 97th when she played her in Luxemburg

After Doha semis on Saturday, she had to play qualies to play in Dubai

first match vs Peer - Aga lost everything on airport, close, rackets...
so she had to borrow them from others

matches 2nd Chaky - Amelie - Patty - Aga was in a short slump

Re: Help on Radwanska?

I am not sure if above examples indicate a trend or pattern or they are still coincidental. In my opinion Agnieszka is still very much in a developmental stage and doesn’t produce results consistently. A side effect of any player that is heavily developing some of their skills are periods of poorer performance. I am afraid that she is entering one. I hope I am wrong because I would rather see that happen after USO, but one can’t choose the timing of those things. I guess the only thing left to do is to wait and see. Going back to what I said; I am never certain (to an extend that one can be certain in sports) if she is going to lose or win a match regardless of the opponent. I would like to believe that she will be a “stable” player in 6 to 12 month timeframe. At the moment she is just a dangerous opponent for everyone on the tour because of her talent and determination. Going a little further (I am allowed since I am a fan, a big one) I see her in the future as one of the greatest players on the tour because of her determination, competitiveness, talent and exceptional work ethic.

The best of luck to all tennis players; The game is on!
-Andre
P.S.Well,... special luck to Agnieszka Radwanska, Marta Domachowska, Daniela Hantuchova, Urszula Radwanska
Bally, Rest In Peace!
