Racket Stringing- I need help

I got a tennis racket stringer. Finally figured out how to work it.

Today I did all the mains, tied and cut them, then I wasn't sure how to start the crosses.

It says stuff about a start up knot. Is a start up not 100% necessary? Because I wasn't sure, I tried stringing the crosses the same way I did the mains, from the middle out, and what happened was the floating clamps kept pushing the mains across, until eventually the mains came untied. So, I had to cut all the string and I'll have to start all over.

So I'm assuming that means a start up knot is completely necessary? I assumed that because I was using 2 pieces of string it wouldn't be necessary.

So, my question is, how exactly do I do the start up knot? Do I tie it around the main and go back through the hole then thread?..

I really have no idea. Can anyone try to explain or give a link or something?

I used to list my favorite tennis players here...
...then they all retired.
I used to keep track of my rankings in fantasy games here...
...then I realized how much I suck.
I used to update this signature, once in a while...
...then I realized no one actually reads it.

My advice is to go to menstennisforums and ask there. That forum is better for stuff like this

Yes you absolutely need to start with a knot at the top if you're doing 2 piece stringing!

In terms of how to start it, think about doing a knot at the end of your main strings, except this time without the tension of the string at the other end. So, you're right, tie it around the main string, and start it out of the hole an through the outside of the frame. In my experiences, I do a double knot; the first knot, I let the stringing machine pull the knot into the frame. Then, on the second, its much easier to get a solid knot.

Does this help at all?

If you're stringing one piece you have to leave one side long enough to do half mains and all crosses.

If you're doing two piece, you have to make a starting knot for the crosses anchored to a main. The correct main to use is a specific one, comes with the stringing pattern for that specific racquet.

Yeh you start the crosses from one in from the top - weave that string, then weave the op string. Pull the top string, clamp it, and tie it off on one of the mains, then carry on stringng with the rest of the string from the 2nd corss down to the bottom

I'll just butt in here... how do I know if my racquet was strung correctly? The knots seem to be in odd locations.
