The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

From here until after the US Open, Anna Chakvetadze has 1065 points to defend. That's not including other players who may or may not have a huge hardcourt summer and exacerbate her fall down the rankings.

Sadly, I don't think she'll leave top 20. She needs a bad indoor circuit and a failure to qualify for YEC for that to happen. The latter being more likely.

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

Just to let you know : Anna is 11 at the race to the YEC which means she is having the 11th best season

She may not defend her points during the summer but she doesn't have a lot to defend in the fall
Actually I can see her finishing the year at 10 or 9

Not bad at all for a "boring" and "worst top 10" player!!!

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

It's a shame that Anna's career has kind of stalled. She is this year's Petrova - someone who reached their highest ranking and won multiple titles the year before and faltered the next year. And whatsmore - they both won Paris as their last title and have struggled ever since.

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

Better chances for Anna Chakvetadze is to stay in TOP TWELVE than leave TOP TWENTY at end of this year because:

1) USO Hardcourts and Europian indoors is traditionaly her best surfaces and parts of season.
2) Now is already more than half year after that december shocked and stressed Moscow robbery which ruin her mantal toughness, very important part of her game in past.

IMO

She is #11 with 955pts, just 10pts more than #12 - and #10 have 1523pts... so she dont have actualy serious chances to stay in TOP10... but i predict her TOP12.

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

That's right, she's #11 in the race and that's with everyone saying she's doing terrible.

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

I think I am going to take a position in between Serenidad and frenchie. Yes Chakvetadze is 11th in the YEC race. But the gap between 10 and 11 is huge, well over 500 points. In other words I do see her dropping out of the top 10 and probably by the end of the US Open. But I certainly do not see her falling out of the top 15 and I wouldn't be surprised at all if she has a reasonably good hard court season and indoor season and finishes the year ranked at number 11, which is not at all bad.

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

Looking at the race as it currently is, there is a huge gap between No. 10 Zvonareva (1523) and No 11. Chakvetadze (955).

I think it will be an enormous effort for anyone not in this top 10 to make the YEC. Not impossible of course, but a massive change in form.

Bit harsh saying "sadly" won't fall out of the top 20... she's playing top 15 tennis this year.

She had her first stellar year last year... everyone has a sophomore slump. Who knows what'll happen in 2009.

This is the same as everyone saying Marion was going to plummet after Wimbledon.

Pay attention to the rankings and learn how they work. Even if Anna has an average summer, she isn't leaving the top 15 any time soon. She isn't having a Grand Slam contender season but she isn't having a bad season. She is having a top 15 season.

Just a little note. She made it further than Ivanovic and Sharapova at Wimbledon.

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

I agree with those of my predecessors who hold a more balanced view: Anna is staying in the Top 15 with a distinct chance of landing at #11 by the year's end. Despite all her ups-and-downs, she has been playing at the level of Top 15 this season.

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

It's funny you bring this up - I just happen to be watching her USO SF from last year. That has got be one of the worst matches EVER

That said, I think Anna will be in the Top 20 - Top 15 for the next few years

This is my cool signature

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

well if you deduct everyones points from now untill after the us open anna would be #12, which is amazing considering the amount of people that have said how crap she is this year.
also chakvetadze is amazingly good on hard courts especialy the american/canada summer swing, she began her carrer beating myskina at the us open reaching 3rd in '04 made her 1st tier 1 semi at toronto in '06, won the 2 hardcourt titles last year, beat venus on her way to san diego semi and has had her best result (semi) at a slam at the us open as well as a 4th round and a couple of 3rds.
decent showings on the summer hardcourt swing i think will leave her at 10 in the world, then its upto her indoor season as to wether she stays top 10 or not, but she had a very bad indoor season last year apart from the YEC.
im saying anna will finish the year at #10, theres no one behind her in the ranking thats going to hit great form, i think the top 10 will be the same 10 players for the rest of the season.
at worst she will be #11 or #12 by the end of the year, not bad for her slump year, cant wait for '09 when she picks it up again!

Re: The Fall Cometh : Anna Chakvetadze

Anna is not THAT bad this year ...She's just not having constant results. She's crap comparing to her top 5 season of last summer but she's still at good top 15. I feel that things will begin to change for her this summer, she's going to play better and win some important matches!!!

Wozniak~ElTabakh ~Marino~Eugenie Bouchard...and the other Canucks!
Maria Sharapova~Anna Chakvetadze~Jelena Dokic~Laura Robson ~Sabine Lisicki

And what does that imply about Anna? A short answer: nothing. 15 other players did likewise.
