Junior career's of curent Top 20 players

I was wondering how well success in juniors correlates to success on the main tour. Obviously there have been many "failures" among junior GS winners (Salerni, Flipkens, Smashnova, Widjaja etc), but how about the other way around? How good were current top stars in their junior days? Here are data for current top 20 with all notable results (SF or better in GS or Orange Bowl):

Ivanovic - 2004 W RU
Jankovic - 2001 AO W
Sharapova - 2002 AO RU, 2002 W RU
Kuznetsova - 2001 RG RU, 2001 USO RU, 2001 OB RU, 2002 RG SF
S. Williams - didn't play
Dementieva - 1997 OB SF, 1998 RG SF, 1998 OB W
V. Williams - didn't play
Chakvetadze - 2003 W RU
Safina - 2001 W RU
Radwanska - 2005 W W, 2006 RG W
Zvonareva - 2000 OB W, 2001 OB W
Hantuchova - no notable results
Schnyder - no notable results
Szavay - 2005 AO RU, 2005 RG W, 2005 W SF
Bartoli - 2001 USO W, 2001 OB SF
Azarenka - 2004 W SF, 2004 USO SF, 2005 AO W, 2005 W SF, 2005 USO W
Petrova - 1998 RG W, 1998 OB RU, 1999 AO SF, 1999 USO RU
Kirilenko - 2002 W SF, 2002 USO W
Schiavone - no notable results
Cornet - 2007 AO SF, 2007 RG W

I wouldn't call Smashnova a failure. She was a Top 20 player, unlike any of the others mentioned.

How can you call Smashnova's career a failure?? . Most players dream of having her career.

Salerni has done alright as well, but she's always is injured.
Flipkens been injured but she is coming back nicely.
and Widjaja's entire career was an injury.

Everyone knows that Kuznetsova is my favorite player, but she was the queen of runner-ups even as a junior!

Re: Junior career's of curent Top 20 players

Sorry about Smashnova - I forgot about her being in the top 20.
Some folks here are really quick to call others idiots, though

Some other more appropriate examples - Aniko Kapros, Barbora Strycova, Tara Snyder...

Hmm how did Kapros do as a Junior? I know she had a horrid serve that would never translate into the professional tour. Strycova was a surprise, I really expected her to do better, but she had a good result last week in Wimby so maybe it's coming together

Re: Junior career's of curent Top 20 players

An interesting and useful thread for a change. Thank you sunsfuns.

Judging from your list, Radwańska and Azarenka achieved more than the other girls as Juniors by being the only ones who won two Junior grand slams, Agnieszka -- the classic ones: Roland Garros & Wimbledon, Victoria -- the New World ones: Australian & US Open.

It would be interesting to know who won both Roland Garros and Wimbledon as a Junior besides Radwańska.

How is US Open "new world"? It's only a few years younger than Wimbledon
