Special Ranking; Protected Ranking

Here are my questions about Special Ranking and Protected Ranking.

Are SR and PR different terms for the same thing, or different things?

How does a player qualify for this?

How can I find a listing - that is updated regularly - of players currently having these rankings, and what ranking each one has?

Are the SR and PR places held exclusively for a player given one of these rankings, or can an active player share the same ranking?

Re: Special Ranking; Protected Ranking

In order to be eligible for a WTA Tour Special Ranking in either singles
or doubles, a player:
a. Must have been out of competition a minimum of six (6)
months and a maximum of two (2) years; and
b. Must have the following ranking at the time she stopped
playing:
i. In the Top 300 in singles; or
ii. In the Top 200 in doubles.

in cases of absences
due to maternity leave, for a player to be eligible for a Special
Ranking such player must be ready to play her 1st tournament
within 12 months of the birth of her child.

A player has one (1) year from the date she returns to
competition to use the Special Ranking Tournaments
granted by the WTA.

A player will be granted eight (8) Tournaments in which to
use her Special Ranking.

A player who misses a minimum of three (3) Grand
Slams during her mandatory out-of-competition
period may enter a maximum of one (1) Grand Slam
using her Special Ranking as part of her eight (8)
Special Ranking Tournaments.

I think special ranking = protected ranking

Re: Special Ranking; Protected Ranking

I too think that's the same.
A player right now that could use her Special Ranking: Mara Santangelo, she is totally eligible, but so far could enter without using it. But as she missed only the AO as Slam, she cannot use it for Slams. Which means she will probably be in big trouble for the US Open as she now is ranked around 230. Poor Mara!

Cara Black - Liezel Huber - Mary Pierce

Chanelle Scheepers - Abigail Spears - Vladka Uhlirova - Mervana Jugic-Salkic - Francesca Schiavone -Tsvetana Pironkova - Lisa Raymond - Sophie Lefèvre...

Re: Special Ranking; Protected Ranking

Thanks! I'll read the details later on. Is there a place where I can see who has a SR/PR - by player - and what ranking each one has? (WTAtour.com rankings page does not list these.)
