More Doubles for the Williams Sisters

I think Venus and Serena should simply play only one singles tournament each and doubles as much as possible between now and the Olympics.

It improves both of their games, gets them additional match practice, forces them to practice their volleys, and they enjoy it so much.

And I definitely think they should dump the fall schedule for more doubles play. Perfect preparation for the Aus Open, which I really want Venus to win in 2009!

Re: More Doubles for the Williams Sisters

Don't they have an obligation to the WTA to play a minimum of tournaments
How can they justify withdrawing from the single while participating in the doubles?

At the men's it's like that, but not at the women's. If they do the promotional and appearance work attached to the tournament, the WTA doesn't mind.

You may be correct, but still does not seem right that 2 of the main attractions
would skip the singles and play only doubles.

Re: More Doubles for the Williams Sisters

But I doubt serena and venus will play doubles at montreal. That would be too heavy for them leading up to the olympics.

Re: More Doubles for the Williams Sisters

If Serena wins the olympics gold medal, I'm perfectly happy, if she combines it with the us open, even more ! =)
