The most touching grand slam victory ever?

I would have to say, Jana Novotna's triumph at Wimbledon 1998. How she sank onto her knees and started crying. Skin still tingles from that.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
Serena 2007 AO - Awesome win after being bruised and battered. Lovely dedication to sister Yetunde too.
Mauresmo 2006 AO - Finally getting over the slam hump.
Mauresmo 2006 Wimbly - Consummating her status as a slam champion.
Capriati 2001 AO - Finally fulfilling some of her potential.

What are yours?

Serena. Simona. Ana. Petra. Venus.
Clijsters, Henin, Dementieva, Davenport.
Martina Hingis - "No one else played like Hingis - no one could."

Re: The most touching grand slam victory ever?

I haven't seen many, but Maria's WImbledon win in 2004 was great at the time. It may appear to have lost some of its inspiration since then, but at the time it was a great story. A 17 year old breaking through and seeing her dad and box crying was great especially after commentators had built the story up of her coming from a poor family and spending everything to come to Flordia to take a chance with her playing tennis. I was a much bigger 2004 Maria fan than a 2008 one.

Wimbledon 2005, I literally had tears in my eyes.
And Kimmie's win, for obvious reasons, it was a perfect final

Swiss champs.

Re: The most touching grand slam victory ever?

I actually think Capriati's 2001 French was extremely moving. She just won a marathon match, and in her acceptance she remembers and takes time to dedicate it to Corina Morariu, who was battling cancer.

Re: The most touching grand slam victory ever?

Monica @ the '96 AO is in the running for obvious reasons. (Sure I like Jen better, but hers should have started sooner than the '01 AO). And Steffi's last in '99 after near career-ending injury is up there. However if you want one, Justine's first RG as she had promised her late mother was the most touching.
