Lightbulb iWatch for the future of tennis (prospects inside).

iWatch Prospects

Yes, this idea came to me after reading that "Hype vs. Real" thread.

In this thread, I am going to track the progress of all of the young girls that are starting to be hyped by the media and our fellow members here on TennisForum. There were no specific rules or limitations that I used in compiling this list, but I think I did a pretty good job picking the players to keep track of. I am planning on adding to the list once some of the younger junior players become more and more recognized here on the board but here is what I have some up with for now. They will be sorted by rank for now and, as similar to the other "watch threads" I will have a prospect of the week each week.

All in all I hope this is just a fun thread where we can keep a close eye on the young players in our sport and see which of them will be the real deal. Deadlines.

Re: iWatch for the future of tennis (prospects inside).

Also, feel free to discuss who you think is indeed the real deal and who is just a young player fulfilling her potential early and will stay right where she is for most of her career.

although she's been around top-10, top-20 for a few years, vaidisova is still only 19
(in fact radwanska is one month older), so maybe she can be in the list too

maybe krajicek

Pervak, Rus, Orlik,
or are they too young to be in this thread? Hyped they are, that's for sure.

I thought the same thing and Golovin was born in the same year as Szavay and she has a higher career ranking than any on the list, so I'mnot sure if George wants to just cover players who haven't broken though yet. If not, Karatantcheva could be considered as well as she's still in this same age group and is still a prospect.

The current junior top 10 is:
1. Halep
2. Oudin
3. Rus
4. U. Radwanska
5. Lertcheewakarn
6. E. Bogdan
7. A. Bogdan
8. Nara
9. Jovanovski
10. Vogt

I would add at least Halep, Rus, and Vogt and I agree with Lunaris who said Pervak and Orlik, if you want to go that young. Along with Hercog, the waiting list should probably contain Milevskaya as well.

Pivovarova?

Sorry, but I've always been interested in this sort of thing.

Definitely. I'm not sure how we forgot her.

Being biased, I also think Antoniychuk and Tabakova will be good, particularly Romana who does well on the junior circuit, when healthy. Khrystyna seems to be struggling a bit lately. Remondina as well, but they all need to step it up a little before they make the list.

I forgot to mention Dentoni in my other post. She was born in '89 and has shown promise this year.

Re: iWatch for the future of tennis (prospects inside).

GREAT idea for a thread!

I've seen all the pictured players on TV at least once, and I'm impressed by all of them. I think Azarenka and Szavay are most likely to be the most streaky/hit or miss of the bunch, but with good potential. Radwanska impressed me a ton against Cornet at RG (Alize was very good too) - she reminded me of a lesser Jankovic and with court movement like Hingis. I think she just needs to be a bit more aggressive on most surfaces and improve her serve %.

Not Lertcheewakarn...

Jessica Moore
She is going to be quite good, how good it is too early to say.
Also, would you really still consider players like A. Radwanska, Szavay, Cornet etc still as ''prospects'' they are top 20 now and have each achieved some impressive results on Tour...I consider prospects as people who have the potential to do good things, in this case on the WTA Tour, and they have all done good things, and IMO have passed the ''prospect'' stage...maybe it's just a matter of perspective?

Olaru has been injured for a while in the beginning of the year but she beat Bychkova in straights. Hopefully she'll climb back to where she was.

Great list. I like Pivovarova but I don't think she is as hyped as the other Nastya P. Rus is a good addition maybe. She's playing Ordina Open so we'll see how she does.
