Best Tournament EVER?

I don't remember ever having been happier with the Quarterfinalists at a tournament.

This is glorious!

Re: Best Tournament EVER?

1999 US Open without a shadow of a doubt

r128 Mauresmo def. Henin 61 64

r32 Serena def. Kim 46 62 75
r32 Martinez def. Dementieva 62 26 64

r16 Hingis def. Aranxta Sanchez 64 75
r16 Serena def. Martinez 46 62 62
r16 Venus def. Ferandez 26 61 60
r16 Seles def. Capriati 64 63

QF Hingis def. Anke Huber 62 60
QF Venus def. Schett 63 64
QF Serena def. Seles 46 63 62
QF Davenport def. Pierce 62 36 75

SF Serena def. Davenport 64 16 64
SF Hingis def. Venus 61 46 63

Final: Serena def. Hingis 63 76

If only the final was three sets and there weren't two weak quarters, it would literally have been the perfect tournament. It had the perfect balance of old talent, new talent, promising talent, classic matches, grudge matches and high quality tennis.

Re: Best Tournament EVER?

Agreed. The 1999 US Open was the ULTIMATE tournament. Even though, we did not have Graf playing. You forgot to mention Novotna did play this event but announced her retirement after her loss.

The 1999 US Open semis were INSANE. Hehe. Good times.

FUCK YOU, SEWTA.
