Wow... it has been that long already?

Just a food for thought.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen as I want Sveta to win.

Re: If Maria and Sveta loses today, we'll have a new GS champion since Amelie @ AO 20

yeah, very interesting to see how many new 1st time champs we've had in the last 10 years (11 players). Currently, we're seeing the longest drought in a new GS champion since the period of 2001 AO-2003 FO.

2006 AO: Mauresmo
2005 USO: Clijsters
2004 USO: Kuznetsova
2004 Wimbledon: Sharapova
2004 FO: Myskina
2003 FO: Henin
2001 AO: Capriati
2000 Wimbledon: Venus
1999 USO: Serena
1998 USO: Davenport
1998 Wimbledon: Novotna

Interestingly, in the last 10 years, there have only been 4 GS finalists who have not WON a major (for some that would be "not WON a major yet" since they are still playing)

2007 Wimbledon: Bartoli
2007 FO, 2008 AO: Ivanovic
2004 FO, 2004 USO: Dementieva
1998 Wimbledon: Tauziat
