Laura Robson * Heather Watson

Serena & Venus & Caro

* Elena Baltacha * Anne Keothavong * Katie Obrien * Naomi Cavaday * Melanie South * Naomi Broady & All the Brits *

I'm just hoping the LTA have the good sense to give a QWC to Kimiko Date-Krumm.

Re: Wimbledon Wildcards ?

Anna Fitzpatrick is bound to get one I'd say after making the junior semis last year.

I think O'Brien, Cavaday, South, Baltacha and Cavaday will also get one in terms of the Brits and I'd like to see Sarah Borwell get one but think she'll find herself in qualies as I think Amanda Elliott or Georgie Stoop are more likely to get one than Sarah.

Re: Wimbledon Wildcards ?

I agree with Peter but I have a feeling Anna F will get it over Amanda, which I dont think is fair but Anna seems to have the right contacts etc.

Qualies
Sarah B
One of the two previously mentioned
Katharina
Georgie
Anna S

Fitzpatrick will get one, I think. O'Brien, Cavaday, Baltacha are sure locks. And Urszula Radwanska as last year's junior champ.

And Mel South.

Hopefully they will consider JD for a QWC.

I personally wouldn't give wildcards to any player that has never been in the top 120, with the exception of juniors. They should be given to far more deserving players who could actually win a couple of rounds, rather than dishing them out to non hoper Brits, especially those turning up year after year for them.

Congratulations to Anne Keothavong on actually being ranked high enough to get in directly this time.

Guess they'll waste a WC on a crappy player again. I still can't believe they gave a WC to Kutuzova last year.

Re: Wimbledon Wildcards ?

I would still rather see Brits get them, clearly they need some help

And an impressive win or two could really kick start a career, you can never label some1 a 'no hoper' in my opinion.

I agree but how many wildcards should a player get ? It's never kick started a career yet. I'd prefer them going to top British juniors, not somebody of 24 who has already had 5 wildcards and still hasn't won a match ! Players like Dokic, Lucic and Stephenson could re-start their careers again with the big stage and better opponents and since all have been semi finalists in the past, they must deserve wild cards more than some of the British players who will inevitably get them.

Sounds like a good list. Maybe Dokic too as she's now on the rise and seems serious about it.

For players like Anne and Katie hovering just outside the Top 100 it's opportunities like this that could help propel them to the next level. A little bit of luck with the draw and a strong determined performance are all that is needed. The Brit girls are in the best form they've been in for several years. Wimbledon, remember, exists as a not-for-profit organisation to reinvest in British tennis. Wildcards are justified - the Brits don't get a helping hand outside the grass season after all.
