Rome: The Numbers. The Stakes.

2008 Rome: The Numbers. The Stakes. The Draw.

Nine of the Top 12 are in play: #1 Justine and #10 Dani are injured and #7 Elena is just not playing 2008 Rome.

The Numbers.

y = Not playing in 08.
** Best 17 Tournament points considered, without 2007 Rome:
     JJ 100, AChak 1, Elena 70, Dani 40, Patty 40

The Stakes: Ranking/Seeding at RG!

#1 Rank. Justine will remain #1 even though she is not playing and has no
points to defend.

#2 and #3 Ranks. #2 Pova leads #3 Ana by just 64 points and neither girl is
defending 2007 points. Ana can retake #2 by finishing two rungs higher if
Pova loses either her 2nd or 3rd Round matches or by finishing one rung higher
if they both reach the QF's. Ana has it tough, though, facing 3rd Round Dinara and QF A-Rad or AChak!

#4 and #5 Ranks. #4 JJ has the early advantage over #5 Kuzy in terms of points
but not necessarily in terms of opponents. JJ has Panetta/Srebotnik 2nd Round
and then Ame/MariaK/AMG 3rd Round. All dangerous on clay. And then the joy of
facing Vera/Venus in the QF's!!! Kuzy should make the QF's but then it's tough!
Kuzy's QF seeded opponents are Serena/Szavay with Alona Bondarenko and Nadia
Petrova in the wings taking shots at the seeds. Kuzy has to clearly outperform
JJ to get back to #4.

#6 Rank. Serena is probably safe at #6 with AChak and Venus a couple of hundred
points behind and Elena not playing. Serena's objective is points! She needs
points to maneuver into a position to challenge for the #5 Rank. She is 500 to
600 points off the mark to do that at this time.

#7, #8 and #9 Ranks. #8 AChak and #9 Venus are separated by 21 points. Whoever
finishes higher in Rome takes the higher Rank. In addition, #7 Elena is a sitting
duck. If she loses the 2008 Berlin Final, AChak and/or Venus will pass her with a
SF finish, If Elena wins 2008 Berlin, then AChak and/or Venus must make the Final
to pass her. Venus's biggest problem getting to the QF's is the red hot Vera in
the 3rd Round. AChak's biggest problem is AChak!!! Can she finally bring it?

#10 and #11 Ranks. Without lifting a racquet, Bartoli will fall forward into the
#10 Rank bumping Dani to #11 after 2008 Rome. Dani cannot defend her 2007 Rome
points due to injury.

#12 and up Ranks. Vera, Dinara and Agnes Szavay will be challenging Patty for the
#12 Rank. It will be interesting to watch these four players.

Dammit! The Peer resignation!!! I hope she faces a stiff fine.

I'll fix the initial thread. It's a match I would have liked to see, though!

I really hope Venus and Serena can get/stay ahead of Dementieva before RG. I want them to have good seedings!

Wow! Dinara has caught Patty and Vera and Szavay are close behind!

The question is: Expand the list or cut Patty free and wait till they make the Top 10? Lets see how much time I have in the next day or so. It's going to be exciting to see how these girls shake it out! It seems to be a serious and strong attack for Top 10 status.

Re: Rome: The Numbers. The Stakes.

Bartoli, who is #37 in the Race will be top 10.
