Suppose there's a new Wimbledon Champ ... and it's NOT Justine Henin

Who do you think it would be, and why?

Roland Garros has more than it's share of potential new champs. Venus Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova are both former finalists, and champs at other slams. Ana Ivanovic was in the last RG final, and the last OZ final. But outside of Justine Henin, who's resume saya 'Wimby-champ-in-waiting'?

Marion Bartoli - Well, she was in the final last year, so we have to include her. Can I get a 'yeah, right'?

Nicole Vaidisova - Well, she's tall, and skinny, and has a big serve. Can I get a 'yeah, right. Uh-huh'?

I just don't see where this new champ would come from. Well, The All-England Club likes tradition. Maybe they don't even want a new face. But it looks like another episode of Henin and the Repeaters this year.

Re: Suppose there's a new Wimbledon Champ ... and it's NOT Justine Henin

I think Chakvetadze's new ballbashing game and bigger serve could help her on the grass. Win the tournament? No, sure. But out of all the players around...well, Krajicek is just awesome on grass, probably the closest we have to a grass-court specialist after Venus on the WTA. Big serve, big forehand, solid net skills, likes fast surfaces, could have been in the Wimbledon SF last year, won Rosmalen beating Dementieva and Safina (granted not the best grass wins ever ).

Aside from her, the name that popped into my head was Azarenka. She hasn't done much on grass, no, but she has a very good serve and great groundstrokes, plus she likes coming forward more often now.

To win Wimbledon, you need a good serve, big weapons off the ground, and capable volleying skills to back them up are always nice. Only Krajicek and Azarenka, when it comes to new names only, are coming to me now.

I cant see any of this new batch winning it yet... Wimbledon isnt the title for the "pretenders" or wannabes.... So if its a new winner (meaning Venus/ Davenport/ Serena/ Amelie/ Sharapova arent winning) That pretty much leaves Henin........I mean if you look at the title winners/ finalist of the last 9 years the only WTF you get is Bartoli...

Venus Ebone Starr

Serena Williams

Madison Keys

I agree with this. I don't get the thread. Who ever would have to be serious up and comer like Maria, with a lot of potential.

The wimbledon finals may have been all of the same faces in recent years, but they've had loads of surprise semi-finalists (Dokic, Lucic, Stevenson, Gigi Fernandez etc.).

Wimbledon has been all Williams territory for such a long time now, with only a few other players being able to do well there on a regular basis (Davenport, Sharapova, Mauresmo). Bartoli's run to the final last year was so amazing. No other player has had such a breakthrough there (well apart from Maria) and it be such a shock to everyone.

Azarenka and Vaidisova will probably win Wimbledon at some point.
Nicole has that big serve and Vika has some of the best groundstrokes I have ever seen.

at the thought of Misa winning a GS.

I really can't see anyone winning except Masha/WS/Justine... I would say Jankovic and we all know how crazy that sounds.
