If Sharpie doesn't withdraw before the match due to "fatigue", it's not hard to guess that she will be totally annihilated by Serena and her "shoulder injury" will recur for another 9 months just like post AO 07.
If she gets past Medina Garrigues this time I'm sure she will again have the confidence to play Serena. I doubt she will be able to take it to three sets but I'm sure she won't be annihilated, she's the one with match practice on green clay and it is Serena's weakest surface (though she is still a better clay-courter).
Maria needs to get past Medina again before playing Serena.
She sure does, but mental toughness will be enough to get past Anabel again. Medina could lead 5-0 in the third but I think Sharapova will still be able to wrench 7 games in a row. Or take it to a tiebreak, which she'll dominate.
Against Serena...mental toughness isn't as big a factor since Serena is so mentally tough too. Whoever wins the first set will win when the other retires. My bet: Serena 6-4 ret.
Ana Ivanovic is now retired.
Justine Henin. Amelie Mauresmo. Francesca Schiavone.
People need to realise taht Serena doesn't have a bye into the quarters.
I think with her serve and her athleticism, her power, her court mobility, I just think when she’s on, she’s the greatest player we’ve ever seen, ever. Now, whether her record is the greatest remains to be seen because she hasn’t retired yet. But I think she is really the greatest player. I have seen Martina and Steffi at their best. There are little chinks in those players’ armor, but it was a different era, where you didn’t need to be the perfect player.
