The Madness Must Stop!

Does anyone else find this new trend among club and recreational players of calling 30-40 as "Ad Out" or 40-30 as "Ad In" highly annoying!?!? It's not ad out or in at this point! It's 30-40 or 40-30!

Where do you play, the Amish Tennis Club? That trend is as new as a wooden racquet, my friend.

Never experienced this trend before, but the trend that annoys me is when they don't call out the score at all.

Re: The Madness Must Stop!

yeah i've encountered it before, and it is annoying. I've also heard the opposite, where they call and ad-in/ad-out point as "40-30" or "30-40".

If you ever want to throw me off my game (besides making me hit three straight groundies without missing, of course), just ask me the score while you're serving.

Re: The Madness Must Stop!

Yes, I have heard it for at least two years when I started playing. I only hear men do it (I'm female). I hate it too. It messes with my own scorekeeping in my mind, because I want to be clear on where we are in the game - ad in or ad out would only come after a deuce, to me.

They seem to think this is fine, though. I've tried to correct them or discuss it once or twice, but I stopped that. It is too commonly done to fix it.

P.S. There is a forum for recreational tennis threads........ same forum as college. Hope more people will go there and this thread will probably be moved there.

Re: The Madness Must Stop!

I've never come accross that unless at the time it just seemed like a mistake.
At the high junior levels, players call out wrong scores all the time just to throw you off.

My pet peeve was people saying "five" instead of "fifteen". It's like "really?" Wow, you're so cool.
(Like "five thirty" "five up") ugh...

That's nothin'. I often hear 15-30 as "five-three," and 15-40 as "five-four." If I were you, my friend, I would avoid playing in the Oakland-Berkeley area at all costs.

Yeah I was going to say this too. I hate when they say five instead of 15.

Re: The Madness Must Stop!

I have never heard of it, but yes it would be quite bloody annoying if you ask me.

I hate it when people at my tennis club s'times never project their voice to call out the score & they never tell you whether to replay the pts or not. I like have to go up & ask them, grrrrrrrrr.
