Henin out of Charleston.

Knee injury is the official excuse, she supposedly doesn't want to endanger her clay "season" which will be all of one tournament long.
Oh Yay.

Re: Henin out of Charleston.

Serena should really win this title now. Hope she can recapture her clay court form from 2002.

I think with her serve and her athleticism, her power, her court mobility, I just think when she’s on, she’s the greatest player we’ve ever seen, ever. Now, whether her record is the greatest remains to be seen because she hasn’t retired yet. But I think she is really the greatest player. I have seen Martina and Steffi at their best. There are little chinks in those players’ armor, but it was a different era, where you didn’t need to be the perfect player.

Re: Henin out of Charleston.

I think she's being honest about the knee. She said earlier this year that she had thought about surgery but that a cortisone shot had helped.

Re: Henin out of Charleston.

Whatevs, Henin. I highly doubt she is injured, but she really does need a break it looks like. Come back when your head is back in the game. And if she really can't play two matches a week without breaking into a million pieces, its time to hang up the racket.

Re: Henin out of Charleston.

I think after you win seven slams, a green clay tournament is not a priority. And if Henin believes it will help her knee, good for her. The health of the players comes first. If you believe that Henin isn't being bothered by something, then you're definitely in your own world.

Serena for the title!

I think her No. 1 ranking will be in serious danger, because from now on, she has to defend SO much!

Re: Henin out of Charleston.

I'm not saying she isn't bothered by something - she clearly is, and she is not playing at a level even close to what she's capable of. Burnout is a real thing and it happens. If Henin wants time off she should do what Venus Williams (FINALLY) did and just say "you know, i'm not going to play for a while." Hell. Do what Eeeeeeeeeeee!Kim did and take a year off to have a baby. It's certainly done wonders for Fatvenports game.

I'm just not a big fan of the whole "oh look I'm the top seed and won my first round easily, I'm a 100 %"-"Oh noes I got thrashed withing an inch of my life, I was secretly injured all along!" flip flopping.

Re: Henin out of Charleston.

I think shes reevaluating things... shes suffered some tough losses this year clearly shes got some things to work on... clay or not if Serena can beat her 6-2 6-0 on a hard court she can win on clay as well

Venus Ebone Starr

Serena Williams

Madison Keys

Hantuchova

And this is why there are so many Williams' haters, particularly Serena...

As far as I can remember, Serena's blamed an injury for all of one loss (Wimbledon 2007) in the past few years.
