SAN DIEGOO, Calif., July 31 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Jennifer Capriati needed just 53 minutes Tuesday to rout the woman billed as "the next Jennifer Capriati," Ashley Harkleroad, 6-0, 6-3, and advance to the third round of the $750,000 Acura Classic.

Capriati, 26, is attempting to win her third title at this hardcourt event. She captured the crown in 1991 and 1992 as a teenage phenom.

The 17-year-old Harkleroad, who reached the French Open junior final in June, is considered American tennis' next young star.

She recorded her first career WTA match win in the opening round Monday against Rita Grande of Italy.

Capriati, who received a first-round bye, awaits the winner of the all-American second-round matchup between No. 13 Meghann Shaughnessy and Meilen Tu, who posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Cara Black of Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

Yugoslavia's Jelena Dokic, the sixth seed, got past Gala Leon Garcia of Spain, 6-2, 7-5, to reach the third round. Her next opponent will be No. 9 Anastasia Myskina of Russia, who rallied past Italy's Francesca Schiavone, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

No. 8 Elena Dementieva of Russia and No. 12 Anna Smashnova of Israel also will square off in the third round. Dementieva cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Paola Suarez of Argentina and Smashnova battled past Marissa Irvin of the United States, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

In Tuesday's other match involving a seeded player, No. 14 Chanda Rubin of the United States routed Amanda Coetzer of South Africa, 6-1, 6-1.

In other first-round action Tuesday, Janette Husarova of Slovakia defeated Adriana Serra Zanetti of Italy, 6-3, 6-1, and Ai Sugiyama of Japan pulled away to beat Lisa Raymond of the United States, 7-5, 6-0.

There are a pair of first-round contests slated for Tuesday night. Russia's Anna Kournikova takes on Alexandra Stevenson and Russia's Elena Likhovtseva goes up against Spain's Conchita Martinez.
