Biggest choke of the year???

Add other big chokes of the top30, if we found enough matches we can add a poll:

* Martina Hingis, Australian Open Final, losing to Jennifer Capriati 6/4 6/7 2/6 after being up 6/4 5/3 and having several matchpoints

* Justine Henin, Amelia Island Final, losing to Venus Williams 6/2 5/7 6/7 after being op 6/2 4/0 and having 2 breakpoints at that moment

* Justine Henin, 's Hertogenbosch Semifinal, losing to Eleni Daniilidou 6/4 6/7 3/6 after being up 6/4 5/2 and having several matchpoints

* Lindsay Davenport, Stanford Semifinal, losing to Kim Clijsters 6/4 4/6 2/6 after being up 6/4 4/2

PLEASE POST MORE!!!!

Um, Lindsay choked okay, but come on. Fifth match back, give her a break.

It was surely Hingis choking to Jen. Not only was she up a set and 5-3, but 4-0 too. Plus, that it was a GS Final makes it that much more important.

Justine's loss to Venus at Amelia would be a distant second in my eyes.

Euhm why cant we have best match of the year, most surprising result of the year, most hard fought match, etc.

And why not have a thread congratulating the eventual winners in these matches for holding on and having the belief to hang in there and fight for it, as opposed to the opponents who for whatever reason couldnt finish it out.

Of course Martina Hingis... 4 Grand Slam Championship points.

Been slamless for 3 years, you'd think she'd pounce on the opportunity.

Without a doubt, it was Hingis in OZ. Capriati played incredible tennis to come back at 4-0 and it was the most exciting set of the entire year, but Hingis was not aggressive enough. She never pulled the trigger on any of those 4 match points.

The other biggie for me was my fave Capriati losing to Serena Williams after leading 3-0 in the third set in Rome. Jen did the same thing Martina was guilty of . . . sitting back and waiting for the other player to make mistakes. Serena, as she has done all year, took it to her.

I don't see this as a negative thread. Choking is a big part of tennis. It creates drama, excitement and makes tennis what it is. I admit it has usually been my faves that have choked the most (Goolagong, Mandlikova, Sabatini, Pierce and, of course, Jana Novotna) but I still love them all. Being a bit vulnerable on court is very endearing.

I feel like crying everytime I think of aussie open finals...4 match points....up 6-4 4-0..she played brilliantly up till the up 2-1 in the third...martina was simply too tentative, jenny just kept swinging! Bet if she were up 2 match points in a row she'd have won...it was a SAD day for ALL martina fans...

At least she proved that she is still a serious slam contender

Martina because I really was not expecting it and she just gave up in the third(and yeah she was overheat, I know, I was too yesterday evening, it's an awful feeling and it was even much colder as in australia)

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

Hingis for sure. I was sure she was gonna win that but Jenn just elevated her game and before I knew it Ms. Capriati was holding the OZ trophy
