Venus Williams very humble in Stanford

I always have liked Venus but thought she was very humble and respectful in her post-Raymond match interview on court when the interviewer compared her achievements to Evert and Navratilova.
She replied " I've a lot of things going for me but I don't deserve to be mentioned along with Evert and Martina yet."
The crowd warmly applauded her for it and I thought it was a nice gesture to the history of the game. If she keeps playing there's no doubt she'll be up with Chris and Matina by the time she finishes.

Venus has developed into such a true champion that even as a non fan I admire her for it. Venus will defintiely be remeber as a gracious champion which will be remembered forever in tennis

Now the question becomes, who besides Steffi deserves to be mentioned with martina and Chrissy. I mean 20+ grandslams is hard to match.

"Humble" gives me shivers. How about "gracious", "cordial", "affable", "classy" ... anything but "humble". Just my "humble" opinion

Reporter: My venus, you have become such a humble player! What triggered this transformation from your previous arrogant self absorbed hingisesque days?

Venus: well, I simply figured out that people need to be coddled to feel better about themselves. my opponents need to know that I really do care about their effort and that they really did try to beat me. These girls on tour learned very early on the junior tour that they're egos really have to be stroked for them to feel good. It just wasn't worth it to hear them crying in the locker room, "boohoo venus didn't give me a compliment, the world is ending."

To tell the truth I really only do it because its not worth all the crap I go through when I don't.

Reporter: You mean all the criticisim and negative articles?

Venus: No, I mean all the crying players in the locker room balling about me "not caring about their efforts" or "ignoring their groundies and new improved serve" or whatever! I think really maybe they should just take a self esteem course or go see Dr. Phil because the reason I lost the wimbledon final was because my arm and hand were so sore from patting all the freaking backs around the tour!

Reporter: oh my you really mean all that?

Venus: of course not! I'm joshing. oh by the way your'e doing a great job with this interview, you sould be on a prime time network.

Reporter: Oh wow really? Thank you so much venus! I'm going to go down to the station and tell them you think I deserve a raise right now!

venus rolls eyes.
