Jan-Michael Gambill OUTPLAYS Roddick 7-5, 6-3!

Roddick got "on top of Jan-Michael" early on but then when Roddick was serving for the first set Jan-Michael made FOUR UNBELIEVABLE returns to save two set points and to break back. He then broke Roddick again when Roddick was serving at 5-6. Roddick hit a second serve about 15 meters WIDE!!!!

In the second set Gambill played like a machine, mixing in solid shots from the baseline, varied serving, some finesse points at the net, good defense and generally very few errors. He returned unbelievably well breaking Roddick at love and just took total control of the match. Jan-Michael showed a TON of mental strength and composure and Roddick once again looked frazzled and frustrated.

It's sad to see how the announcers and most of the crowd are so solidly on Andy's side since he is being hyped and Jan-Michael is a shyer type of guy. But as the match went on Gambill won over his share of fans and when Roddick blasted a 132mph serve up the middle to draw cheers from the crowd, JMG responded with a blistering return of a big first serve and came to the net to end the point with two smashes.

CONGRATULATION JAN-MICHAEL!!!

If I didn't like Jan-Micheal so much I might be pissed that he beat Andy

I really think the tour and the media have put too much pressure on Roddick to be the next American saviour of men's tennis. He's young and needs to take his time, and not be rushed or else he'll burn-out way before his game matures.

In all fairnes to Roddick, Gambill certaintly got his fair share of hype too...

COngrats to him however, Gambill works hard and its a good win for him.

Though to be honest I'm not surprised he beats Roddick on hard courts anyhow.

Why did you have to blatantly say the score. I was hoping to go home tonight and watch the match on tv... pathetic...

"I told her, `You don't want to get into a hitting battle with Sharapova, because it would be uneven for Sharapova, because Sharapova only has one good side and that's her backhand,"'. "`You don't want to get into that for the simple reason you would win. So try to hit some balls to her strong side, to her backhand, and that would help you with your match for tomorrow

Sir Richard Williams

venusfan,

hopefully next time you will learn your lesson and stick to only Williams matches or better yet stay away from the board if you don't want to find out who wins a match. I know your absence from the board for a few hours will be a blessing for many.
