A new look at 2002 Win-Loss statistics puts Hingis way up, ...

... just below the Williams sisters.

The following is the official Win-Loss statistics for the top 15 (as of Jul 22/02), with W/L ratios computed and single titles added in for enlightenment:
Code:
Rank	Player Year	W/L Singles
		                        W-L	Ratio Titles

1	Serena_Williams 36-3	12.00	5
2	Venus_Williams 41-6	6.83	4
3	Jennifer_Capriati 33-9	3.67	1
4	Monica_Seles 39-10	3.90	2
5	Kim_Clijsters 22-9	2.44	1
6	Jelena_Dokic 33-13	2.54	2
7	Justine_Henin 38-13	2.92	1
8	Martina_Hingis 26-5	5.20	2
9	Lindsay_Davenport --	--	0
10	Amelie_Mauresmo 30-10	3.00	1
11	Sandrine_Testud 17-15	1.13	0
12	Daniela_Hantuchova 32-15	2.13	1
13	Elena_Dementieva 28-16	1.75	0
14	Silvia_Farina_Elia 32-16	2.00	1
15	Anastasia_Myskina 34-19	1.79	0
Once we reorder the same list according to Win/Loss ratio, we have:
Code:
Rank	Player Year W/L
		                W-L Ratio

1	Serena Williams 36-3	12.00
2	Venus Williams 41-6	6.83
8	Martina Hingis 26-5	5.20
4	Monica Seles 39-10	3.90
3	Jennifer Capriati 33-9 3.67
10	Amelie Mauresmo 30-10	3.00
7	Justine Henin 38-13	2.92
6	Jelena Dokic 33-13	2.54
5	Kim Clijsters 22-9	2.44
12	Daniela Hantuchova	32-15	2.13
14	Silvia Farina Elia	32-16	2.00
15	Anastasia Myskina	34-19	1.79
13	Elena Dementieva	28-16	1.75
11	Sandrine Testud 17-15	1.13
9	Lindsay Davenport	--	--
Although the same population (ie, number of matches) is not used for all players considered, the numbers of matches are all above the statistical magic number of 30, which gives the order some validity.

This is in no way an attempt to put Hingis at #3, over Jennifer, Seles and the rest. It's just to show that the girl is not to be forgotten, discounted or derided. Once she recovers, we can expect her to be right up there, challenging everyone (except maybe Serena).

BTW, I'm still a Williams fan; I haven't changed camp.

See, she doesn't completely suck! She reached a GS final, a Tier I final, and won a strong Tier II and a Tier I. Plus a few semifinals, and with the exception to her 4-6 0-6 loss to Serena, she was looking good this year!

Ah well, hopefully she can keep those numbers up when she returns.

We know SOME of the problem was likely her feet, as a seperate issue from the ankle. What's up with the shoe lawsuit? If Martina can run without pain, and she's fast, she'll be fine.

I've heard nothing about the shoe lawsuit as of yet. I'm guessing Martina gave up on it or Tachinni settled it out of court. Hopefully Marti will come back strong in time for the indoor season and maybe for the US Open.

I'm not a fan of Chucky. BUT I miss her on the tour. I hope she comes back strong.

Martina is a great player, she can beat everyone except a williams. when you look at players, all of there titles, they have won without beating a williams recently. the only player i know that has one a title beating a williams recently is a williams. all of martinas wins this year either had a williams in the draw and the that williams dropped out or rarely lost early. same goes for jennifer. all of her past wins, she has not beaten a williams on the way. what does that say?
