US Open Surface Question Please!

This year when i went to the Us Open, there was an announce of 8 or 11 indoor courts for the 2008 years, i was wondering if some of the matches will be played there or they have to be strictly on Outdoors..

Sorry if this sounds stupid!

Re: US Open Surface Question Please!

They won't be used. However, if the conditions become monsoonlike they may move play there.

From the ATP 2008 Rulebook (p.43):

Responsibilities of ATP Supervisor (or Referee for that matter):
6) Decide if a court is fit for play or decide if a match should be moved to another court.
The Supervisormay, if necessary to eliminate the possibility of a player having to play
two singles matches in one day, or if necessary to complete the event, move a match
to another court, indoors or outdoors, regardless of surface.

Re: US Open Surface Question Please!

Remember 2003 when it rained like 5 days in a row and we had no play at the USO? The indoors court are there as a last resort. But VERY last resort. They are actually being built for USTA training during the winter and for other events.
