has anyone noticed...

that some of the most recent player who have beaten the williams sisters start to make progress then soon after tend to have bad luck....

Sandrine Testud - got in into the top ten...lost in the first round of the french, now is pregnant (not necessarily bad luck but it did end her career.

Meghann Shaugnhessy - good summer hardcourt season in 2001' and was considered a "threat"...now had 5 match losing streak earlier this year and is dropping in the rankings.

Patty Schnyder - won against jennifer after beating serena was "praised as the new comeback kid"...lost in the final....only won 1 match in her next 3 tournaments, dropping in rankings, and is now pratically off the radar...

Justine Henin - beat venus the first time they met...then lost in the wimby finals 01'...not to mention her match between her and venus at Bausch and Lomb...won berlin against serena considered "a real threat at the french"...lost the next week to her...lost first round at the french...

Kim Clijsters - beat venus in hamburg and was now known as "a serious threat" at the french...lost early in the french to a relatively unknown player...has a long term injury and has to cut down on her tournaments...

Seles - beat venus at the Aussie Open...eventually lost to martina...lost to martina at tokyo...lost to martina at indian wells...lsot stronghold over capriati at miami...lost in french to none other than venus in the same round...lost to justine henin who she had never lost to at wimbledon...

Jennifer Capriati - beat serena many times last year including the french and wimbledon hailed as the "best comeback in tennis history" winning 2 slams in 01'...unexpected loss to henin at wimbledon disintegrating her hopes of a grand slam... lost to serena at the canadian open...lost to testud at the championships...won aussie open 01' by saving four match points...lost to serena in all their previous meeting since montreal...hasnt won a tournament since january and fell to number 3...(she and the media bashed the williams sisters and now the media bashes her)

HINGIS - FINALLY BEAT BOTH SISTERS BACK TO BACK AND HAD A CLEAR VIEW OF THE FINISH LINE...BUT DENIED BY THE COMEBACK KID IN STRAIGHT SETS AND HAS BEEN HER BYOOTCH EVER SINCE...LOST TO SERENA IN THE PREVIOUS MEETINGS...LOST TO VENUS IN STRAIGHT SETS ON CLAY...LOST TO A RELATIVELY UNKNOWN PLAYER IN INDIAN WELLS...LOST THE NUMBER ONE RANKING AND IS FALLING...INJURED AND MISSED 2 SLAMS...
(showed no mercy in humiliating others, now others cant stop humiliating her)

is it just a coincidence or was it meant to be...

And not to mention what's happened to Pete Sampras since that "infamous" statement about Venus' serve and then those really demeaning comments about Serenas' hair. I don't think he's won a tournament since. not to mention what few matches he's won!!! Poor Pete, it's been all down hill!!!

ROTFLMAO Oliver-- I so believe in the Venus cuss <wink wink> but I am not sure about one for her housemate.
Let's not forget Barbara Schette who knocked Vee out of the 1st rd at RG 2001... Yes, her performances were not all that great before, but she's practically gone from bad to worse ever since that faithful May day <evil grin>

Since her victory over Venus in Dubai , Testude's results have been abysmal... She went from being a threat to ----- (luckily , she now has something wonderful to look forward to).
I know Kim is hurt, but deep down I can't help thinking that the cuss is in effect ... I also believe that it has been affecting Meghan from late last year (she better believe that lightening will not strike twice heehe)

Oh well, Venus's housemate better watch her back, because sooner or later that cuss will strike

I'm not so sure that Sandrine would look on her curent condition as 'bad luck' but I get the point.

I think that the weight of expectation changes after you beat a Williams sister - people expect more of you and the players probably expect more of themselves ... which can only lead to lead to disappointment in the end, particularly when they run into either sister again because by beating one you get them both looking for revenge .

Question What did he say,...

Oliver,

Surely, you remember Pete dissing Venus about her serve. Stating something about she has no idea where her serve is going. LOL. He was making fun of her having a "big serve", but not knowing where her placement would be. It was awful, especially since Venus and Serena, as well, idolized him.

I don't think either Sister, has gotten over it, or if they've even forgiven him for it.

WoW!! I never really thought about!! Maybe it's overconfidence on some of the players parts, like Shaughnessy and Schett. They probably think, "Hey, if I can beat Venus, I can beat anyone." Then they fall right on their faces.

No, it's voodoo!

** TP for Topaz or TennisPower **

"Playing aggressive tennis ... that's always the way to go, if you ask me." - Venus Williams, May/2002
"Some shots I will hit hard but not every ball. I'm not just using my power." - Serena Williams, Oct/2002

So for all us williams fans who die when they lose, just tell yourself that those people will get it some day...everybody wants to beat a williams...if they do they get the "KISS OF DEATH" and fall into the "venus fly trap", if that dont happen then they'll lead themselves into "serena suicide"...maybe thats why players lose to them becasue they dont want to be cursed...as for sampras he should join the WTA, but i doubt he'll win anything there either
