What is the hardest Slam to win?

What is the hardest slam to win?

Australian Open- It's changing this year and since we are not sure how much it going to change, lets talk about Rebound Ace. It slow hard court that take spin very well. It is the first Slam of the year and most player have not had that much match play.

French Open-The French has a long season leading up to it, so most player already adjusted to the play style. The points a much longer, so you have to be very fit. Foot work is very important on clay.

Wimbledon- There is only about three grass tournaments leading up to the event. Most player are still getting used to the court, at the start of the event. This is one of the fastest courts. All around game is very important on this court.

US Open-The last Slam of the year. Played one Americana Concrete, very hard on the joints. . Music is played during the change over and it has some of the loudest fans. Last it has a good hard court season leading up to it so most player are ready to play well.

I think the French and Wimbledon are the hardest. Since I was unable to pick one you can vote for two.

Definitely the French. You have to be really clever in order to win it.

You cannot say that one GS is harder to win than other. It depends on draw, opponents form, players own form.....

Re: What is the hardest Slam to win?

Wimbledon, I'd say. On the women's side since 1990, look at the Wimbledon champions.

Steffi Graf - 5
Venus Williams - 4
Serena Williams - 2
Martina Navratilova, Conchita Martinez, Amelie Mauresmo, Maria Sharapova, Jana Novotna, Lindsay Davenport, Martina Hingis - 1

I didn't even count the two previous Wimbledon slams to 1990, both of which Graf won. Seven slams NOT won by a sister or Graf out of 18. It's even more lopsided on the men's side (Sampras - 7; Federer - 5; Edberg, Stich, Agassi, Krajicek, Ivanisevic, Hewitt - 1).

You pretty much have to be the best to win Wimbledon--the only "surprise" Wimbledon champion since 1990 is Conchita, and even then, you just thought she'd get the French Open first, she had game on grass.

But all of the slams are very difficult to win, that is where I find them equal, even if not in prestige. Props to all slam champions.

Re: What is the hardest Slam to win?

I'd say the FO because you have to be extremely fit to last out the really long rallys which occur on clay.

But Wimbledon wouldn't be too far behind because it is uniquely fast and it takes a while to adjust to without much match practise. The extremely low bounces also take a toll on the knees and backs of players.

Re: What is the hardest Slam to win?

I say the French. Red clay isn't that easy a surface to play on. Have to be really fit or really clever. Rallies last longer and somehow endurance is a big factor. Add to that a Justine Henin and it's pretty much very hard to win the French.

The French, without a question. Clay is the most demand of all surfaces for fitness.

Re: What is the hardest Slam to win?

I dont think there is a particular slam that is harder than any others, I think that winning the FO and Wimby back to back is the most difficult than any other 2-consecutive slam combinations (AO-FO, Wimy-USO).
