Most weird way to win a WTA title?

Who can challenge my fave Maja Matevzic. She won Bratislava in 2002 with those results:

1rd def Krasnorutskaya 63ret.
2rd def Shaughnessy(2) ret.
QF def De Los Rios 16 75 61 (being down 16 15 15/40)
SF def Grande(3) 06 62 60 (being down 06 02)
F def Benesova(Q) 60 61 in 38 minutes

On the QF match

Kuznetsova in New Haven this year was weird two, with 3 consecutiva retirements (And against Dementieva it was 1 set all, and against Szavai she was down a set..)

Henin, Schnyder, Jankovic, Aga Radwanska, Cornet

This is at least hilarious! Kuzniecowa this year won a title in a most pathetic way!

Ana Ivanović.

Re: Most weird way to win a WTA title?

lol

Heres another one this year -

Kuznetsova

New Haven -

Round 1 - Bye

Round 2 - Defeated A. Radwanska 4-6, 6-1, 6-4

QF - Defeated Schiavone 6-2 RET

SF - Defeated Dementieva 4-6, 6-3, 3-0 RET

F - Defeated Szavay 4-6, 3-0 RET

Poor Svetlana, her only tournament win of the year and she won just because she was the only one who was left standing....literally.

Re: Most weird way to win a WTA title?

I was actualy thinking about so different scorelines. She was almost blown away in QF, She was bageled in SF, but was able to came back and in final she had lost just 1 game for one of the shortest final ever

I think it was the same tournament when one player won the first six games, lost the next 10 and won the last six it makes 60 46 60

Re: Most weird way to win a WTA title?

Didn't Capriati also win the Pilot Pen with a whole host of retirements. I hate the fact that the tourneys prior to a grand slam have an oversupply of injuries
