Re: Year-End Top-10s comparison over the last five years

Thanks... very useful stats

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Thanks!

Wow, Justine! 26 semis in 27 tournaments, over the last couple of years.

Merci Justine!

Ana finishes the year with a better record against the top 10 than any of the other players to finish No.4 in the past years.

Actualy she have more TOP10 wins than any player in 2004 or 2005 season and have better W/L ratio (against TOP10) this season than any WTA#1 in previous 4 years (between 2003-2006)!!!

At other hand Svetlana Kuznetsova and Jelena Jankovic from this season is only TOP3 players which have negative TOP10 record in last 5 years and also Sveta and Jelena from 2007 have worse W/L record ratio at "tier-II and above" tournaments than any TOP5 girl in last 5 years - and Ana have better F-SF GS success this season, reach more "tier-II and above" titles and lead in H2H 6-0 (3-0 and 3-0) against Jelena and Sveta this season. That all is strong proofs that actualy Ana deserve #2 place this season at end more than Sveta or Jelena. IMO.

However Ana failed to reach QFs at 8 out of 18 Tier II+ tournaments played and lost all her matches against 2007 Grand Slam champions (without winning even a set). In fact, #2-4 players all have miserable records in comparison with players of this range from recent years. So if anyone "deserves" #2 rank this year it has to be Serena.

In this yours research you have 8 columns and results for each column is:

Average place for each player is:

1. (1.00) - Justine Henin
2. (3.75) - Ana Ivanovic
3. (4.63) - Venus Williams
3. (4.63) - Serena Williams
5. (4.75) - Maria Sharapova
6. (5.88) - Jelena Jankovic
7. (6.38) - Svetlana Kuznetsova
8. (6.63) - Anna Chakvetadze
9. (7.88) - Daniela Hantuchova
10 (9.13) - Marion Bartoli

Ana is again #2!!!

Yes... Ana reach only 9 QF of 18 "tier-II and above" tournaments which she played this season - but she won 7 of that 9 QF's!
Serena reach 8 QF of 11 "tier-II and above" tournaments which she played this season - but she won only 3 of that 8 QF's. So that is not argument that Serena deserve better ranking because Ana reach 8 Semifinals of 18 tierII+ tournaments and Serena only 3 of 11. Serena have better season because won slam - but Ana deserve better year end rank.

Lindsay number 1 in 2004 and 2005

The 2003 list has Capriati, Rubin and Sugiyama in it! Can't imagine that today....I wish Jennifer would make a comeback

Exactly. A+ for pointing this out. The 5-8 range [ minus # 6 ] should switch with 2, 3, 4. But since they would play in the QF anyway, the rankings don't hurt anyone. As long as Maria, Venus, and Serena continue to show it on the court, that's all we can ask for.
