What if Davenport beats Venus at Stanford?!

Do not dismiss this idea presumptively: Davenport looks very fit and has been training very hard from what I've heard.

If that were to happen though, this board would explode. Actually, the reverberations would be worldwide. So many people (mistakenly forgetting Serena for a while) would be exulted with the idea that the Williams' stranglehold has been broken; that the cat is back, and it's time for the mice to run away. Oh boy!

Seriously, although hypothetical for now, what would be the impact of such a happening on the tour? Good, bad, or irrelevant?

i'd say well done lindsay but 1 win doens't predict the rest of the season, and it's not if venus is invincible anyway, she lost to shuagnessey last year in stanford which was a bigger shock than lindsay possibly beating her would be and went on to win all the tournaments she played the rest of the year.

It's possible. Venus has low confidence right now and is quite beatable IMO. But first Lindsay has to make it to the final (as does Venus for that matter). For Lindsay to make it to a final in her first tourney back, that is asking a lot. But I'd love to see it (not that it's on TV or anything ). It sure would make for a great final. It would be great for the tour if this happened. Hopefully Lindsay will be a threat at the Open and shake things up. We need something other than the all-Williams face-off we are getting accustomed to.

Considering Venus lost to Megahnn last year... this would be a minor shock wouldn't it?

Lindsay Jelena Maria

Sorry but I have to LOL at this! Like one loss could change the whole tour lol. To even think of that is kinda stupid Newsflash: Venus has already been beaten this year. Minus the meetings against Serena, Off the top of my head I can think of her loss to Monica in Oz and to Kim in Hamburg and if my memory serves me right, the tour didn't change very much after thoses losses so I doubt it will change much if this one happens!!

If Davenport beats Venus, then what Capriati said about the Williams being no.1 & no.2 because Davenport (& Hingis) were injured will become a hot topic again. It will make for interesting discussions.

However, Venus won't get to the final

Let's leave the ifs and what ifs for the tennis court. Right now Serena is #1 and Venus #2 and UNTIL they are CONSISTENTLY beaten by a certain player then we can start talking....

I think that a Lindsay over Venus result would not really mean much for anyone but Lindsay's fans and Williams "haters".

Once a player has reached #1, be it for a week or a year, I think that the only thing that matters from that point on is Grandslam finals and victories.

That is what Chucky, Lindsay, Serena and Venus will be remembered for when their careers are over.

The rest of the tour is just "warm up" time between Grandslams.

If your fave's coach isn't Richard Williams, that's just her first problem...

I was there when the ALL BLACKS won the World Cup in 2011!!!

"I don't know that I changed all that much. They just found somebody worse." - Aging tennis bad boy Jimmy Connors, referring to John McEnroe, in 1984.

There can never be too many "Sister Slams!"
