Matches you've won after saving match points

I've cameback and won after saving match points twice.

My freshman year in HS tennis, I was playing a senior and I trailed 6-4 4-6 2-5, saved 3 MPs before forcing a tiebreaker, and then cameback from 1-4 down in the tiebreak, to win 6-4 4-6 7-6(4).

And recently about eight days ago in a USTA tournament, I came back from 2-6 3*-5 15-40 down (2 MPs saved), to comeback and win 2-6 7-6(5) 6-3.

What about you?

Re: Matches you've won after saving match points

Back when I was much younger and playing one set club tennis, it was a home doubles match. The other team were hitting big and we were making some ridiculously stupid errors, and they soon led *5-0 40-30. We decided in that 5th game that we would throw up some high lobs for them to deal with. They missed so many smashes

We ended up winning in a tie-breaker at 6-5 (club rules) and one of the other kids was crying

Daniela Hantuchova.

Re: Matches you've won after saving match points

I've done this quite a few times. Twice in highschool tennis this year. I trailed 6-3, 5-4, and a match point and then I trailed 3-0 in the breaker before reeling off seven straigth points and ended up winning 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Later in the season I lost the first set easily and was generally pissed off but then I though back to win the second set and we had to play a super set tiebreak for the third set and I saved 4 match points before finally winning 2-6, 6-4, 15-13.

Also against one of my teamates we had an awesome match. The first set went to a tiebreak and I went up 4-1 before he reeled off 6 straight points. He went up 3-1 in the second set before I went up 4-3. However he then went up 5-4 with a matchpoint before I came back and took the set 7-5. In the third set it was even the whole way before the tiebreak where he went up 5-1. I then won six straight points to win the match.

There are more that I might add later.

Apparently, I have bad memory therefore, I can't remember any match I came back to win after saving match points

But I do remember one particular match I choked big time! I had like six match points and unable to won one of them. I ended up losing the match I was up 5-2

Only once. About 2 years ago at a tournament, I was down 6-2, 5-4 and 2 match points before coming back to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. I went on to win the title.

Re: Matches you've won after saving match points

I was playing horrible sucked into the game of a pusher and making a lot of errors. I was down 7-5 5-3 15-40. Saved the first with an ace down the T. The second after she missed a forehand up the line on a midcourt ball. After that, I regrouped and got myself together. I won 5-7 7-5 6-2. This was for the number 2 spot at my HS a few years ago.

Re: Matches you've won after saving match points

Just the other night, I was down 1-5 in the third set of an Ultimate Tennis league match. I saved two match points at 2-5, three more at 4-5, and won in a tiebreak. Needless to say, I was quite proud of myself afterwards.

Re: Matches you've won after saving match points

I've played doubles, where I was down match point. On the first occasion, my partner and I were down last set 5-2 30-40, and reeled off 5 straight games.

Another doubles match while I was away in Sydney, me and my partner were down 5-3 Ad-Receiver, and I hit a down the line passing shot after serving, against the opponent who was at the net.

On match point for us (we had won 3 games to be up 6-5 15-40), I hit a forehand down the line return winner against the same opponent, who was at the net again.

I'll post more later on.

Re: Matches you've won after saving match points

Mine is a very dramatic story actually.

I was playing a guy who I seriously cannot stand and it was extremely tight. It was back and forth the whole time and went to a third set break. I was up 6-5 and smacked a forehand that he couldn't handle and that should have been it, but as I went to go shake hands, he told me that it was NOW 6-5. I knew he was wrong because I'd served from the ad side, but he wouldn't budge and I couldn't prove it. I was so mad and I went down 6-7. We had a long rally and he eventually netted a forehand. I closed the match out 6-3 3-6 7-6(7). Needless to say, he did not get much of a handshake.

Riding the 3AM Rollercoaster!! Players I support, no matter what

Don't you just hate that? I played a guy who made calls on my side of the net! I would call a ball out, and he would say, "No, that ball was in." I still beat him in straights, and I did not shake his hand.
