Comeback of the Year should go to...Julia Vakulenko

Davenport's "comeback" run was nice but she was always a champion so it wasnt surprising

I think after recovering from a career threatening injury which ruined 2 years of her playing career and not so mention her mental issues...Julia has been reborn this year and she has had her best year on tour, to finish well inside the worlds top 40. Her SF and QF performances at Berlin, Warsaw & Linz were inspirational

Julia you are the best! good luck at Quebec City and for 2008

Samantha Stosur: US Open Champion 2011

Cornet // Diyas // Jankovic // Dellacqua // Pironkova // Halep // Hingis
Dulgheru // Gajdosova// Kanepi // Cetkovska // Svitolina // Niculescu // Errani

Re: Comeback of the Year should go to...Julia Vakulenko

Wait till next year when she comes back even higher! She is working hard right now with a group of people she feels comfortable with, her personal life seems to be far better now, everything is okay now for a Julia in top 15 or more!

Vamos Julia!

Cara Black - Liezel Huber - Mary Pierce

Chanelle Scheepers - Abigail Spears - Vladka Uhlirova - Mervana Jugic-Salkic - Francesca Schiavone -Tsvetana Pironkova - Lisa Raymond - Sophie Lefèvre...

Re: Comeback of the Year should go to...Julia Vakulenko

Comeback is wrong word.
She is one of TOP5 "Most Improved Players" this season.
She is Pro Player since 1999 but like in Bammer case - she never played like this season before (in last 8 years she's been only couple weeks in TOP100). I think she have more TOP10 wins this season than TOP30 wins in her whole career before 2007! That means she is not comeback - she improve this season so much and now Julia is complete "new" player on tour (like Jankovic after last year april).

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Re: Comeback of the Year should go to...Julia Vakulenko

the problem to give Vakulenko "Comeback of the Year" is that she was never any good previously. "Comeback" means you were good, then you sucked, then you got good again. Vakulenko is a player who suddenly in 2007 begun to play much higher level than ever before in her career. I saw her some years ago (2003) and I never thought much about her game that she could approach Top 20 level. Obviously she improved over the years.

You can't count her victory over Clijsters. Kim wasn't even trying to win at that point.
Didn't Vakulenko try to commit suicide or something about 4 years ago? I thought I heard that.

Yes, she tryed!

She is one of the best improved players of this year. But I think Szavay is the best improved this year.

Julia! Come on, win the Bell Challenge!

She's been through a very bad period in her life until 2004 but she is back on track now and feels much much better! That's why she plays better now! Vamos Julia!

Err..no.

"Comeback" can also mean that you fight ur way though adversary to be able to play your best tennis. She was "crap" because of her constant injuries, she should of already been top 20 but, she could of easily suck even lower and maybe even give up and retire...Vamos Julia

No. "Comeback Player of the Year" aplies to a player who was already established. Vakulenko was never established. She cant get that award.
