Lindsay seeded #1/2 at the US Open?

I'm a bit confused about lindsay's seeding.

The BOTW classic in Palo Alto is seeding Lindsay #2. It's not clear if this is a decision of this particular tournament
or if the WTA has handed down an edict, according to the gold exemption, that in all her upcoming tournaments Lindsay will be seeded according to her previous ranking when she was injured, (#1).

If the former, then each tournament will make its own decision.
If the latter, then why isn't she seeded #1?
And according to consistency, she should be seeded #1/2 at the Open, although of course that would never happen, because it would cause a maelstrom of controversy.

I personally don't care how she's seeded or not, I can see arguments either way, but it seems to me that they have to justify it by some rule, not just pure arbitrariness.

It was a tournament decision.

And if Lindsay wins all three California tournaments, or two of them and Toronto, them I'm sure some type of accomodation be made. The USOpen can wait and see how she plays. BOTW didn't have that option.

Deep down I feel the whole matter is political. Lindsay got the #2 seed at the BOW infuriating Seles fans. Basically it is about money (what else?). Lindsay just happens to make a more attractive #2 seed than Monica. At the Open, the Williamses will remain #1 & #2. Television ratings in primetime is the main reason. If you want to know what directions things will go follow the money trail.

Beat'em down Ms Williams, beat'em down!
SERENA PRINCESS OF POWER

Victoria Duval - coming to a slam near you
Françoise Abanda definitely a future #1 --- Taylor Townsend devastation on the march
Venus and Serena ferocious grannies --- Kimiko Date Krumm great granny still doing her thing.

Perhaps, they think that protected rankings should not be used for seedings unless it involves a player who was injured while being at #1. So I guess, it might be an equivalent of Seles #1 corankings in 1995-1996. Personally, I don't care. Even if they do it at Slams. Slam winner still has to win 7 matches, no more no less..

First of all, it was not my intent to diss Monica. But her head to head with Venus lacks when compared to Lindsay's. As has been talked about all over these boards, when Lindsay was hurt she was #1. Seemingly they could have seeded her at the top. But probably since Venus was a two time slam winner in 01 decided to seed her second. In addition this is the strongest possible matchup for the final...well at least on paper. That is why I consider Lindsay a stronger #2 seed.

Monica hasn't had much luck beating Lindsay or Venus, I hope she can do so next week.

I am not sure I agree that Lindsay is a more attractive headline than Monica. I like them both, so I don't mean to sound partial. But Monica is a tennis legend. She is very well respected and people (a lot of people during Monica's LONG career span) love watching her play. They like her style, her courage, her determination. I would say that most are not as pre-occupied with her H2H as with just watching her. Because in tennis, anything can happen. She can bring her A game and beat anyone. So in terms of a bigger headliner, I would disagree that Lindsay attracts more people. Monica is pretty much the all-time "everyone loves her" tennis legend. I personally know a lot of people going because they want to see Monica play. But then again, who wouldn't?!

But Monica against Venus in the finals would not be as attractive as Lindsay vs Venus in the finals, so that must have been the reason they seeded Lindsay 2nd... or maybe it is just the protected ranking
