On a scale of 10, what would you give to Tina's 2007 season ?

Just a simple question for mostly the Martina Hingis fans , what would you give for Martina's season in a scale of 10.

I gave her a five. I don't believe she is a serious threat to win a major in her second career and maintaining a top ten ranking is going be a tough task for her, but her results should not have been as poor as they were this season. I think any Hingis fan would at least acknowledge that much.

Hingis herself must acknowledge that, if she's serious about being a contender week in and week out, certain parts of her game do need to improve. At her age that won't be easy and maybe even hard to accept. But that is the reality.

Re: On a scale of 10, what would you give to Tina's 2007 season ?

I'm not a Hingis fan but I don't see how she shouldn't be able to be a consistent top 10 player or beating big names. Hingis had a great 2006, beat plenty of top 10 players, and 3/4 of her first tournaments this year were great too.

Then...nothing. But she's had that injury problem, right? I'd expect her 2008 to be much better.

And on her year, I'd give it a 3. Out of any top 20 player she's had the worst one, in my opinion.

i gave her a 3-i know shes been injured but now shes seemingly lost everyones respect the weaknesses in her game are being exploited by average players. shes also lost a lot of confidence. IMO the weakest top 20 player, though i think the top 20 is extremely strong at the mo
i think next year will be worse and maybe she'll retire again

LOL! I love Hingis, but Tokyo is a joke. It is for AO Rejects that lost a lot of points, padding rankings, or compensating.

awww...I do believe she will do better when she's healthy. I gave her a 3 for a good start but around the clay season she died off

Good Luck Radwanska Sisters!

Sorana Cirstea - Stefanie Voegele - Michelle Larcher de Brito - Alexandra Dulgheru

Martina I will miss you!!

I'll give her a 5.

The first part of the season, even including IW and Miami weren't that bad. She lost to players who were in good form at the time.

After Miami, Martina just lost to players who she would have normally beaten comfortably in normal circumstances e.g. Granville, Peng, Azarenka, Mirza.

Re: On a scale of 10, what would you give to Tina's 2007 season ?

I'd give her a 6/10. In 2007 she was playing as if she was a young and upcoming player again, though she began to stall at times (Wimbledon, USO to name a few events). She was more fearless and did much better than anyone expected her to do. The beginning of her 07 season was already better than that of her 06 debut, but then she started to lose matches where she was up, and her mental state simply took a killing.

Mix in the injuries during the clay season (surface where she can do the most damage vs top players) and it completely killed her season. Tried to come back after that and played semi-decent and then called it quits for the remainder of the year shortly into the indoor swing. Her second year back on tour was obviously going to be tougher than her first as she has points to defend, which eats at you more than playing a full year with a clean slate. Considering that and the fact that injuries kept her out for about 2-3 months of the entire season (that's almost half the season period!) and still being able to finish inside the top 20 says a lot about Hingis.

I expect her to come back stronger next year, though I doubt she'll be a main stay in the top 10; too many great players now and her body can't take it anymore. She'll still be able to win titles of significance and go deep in draws. If she is to win a slam, it'll be the Aussie Open because it's the one place she can surprise multiple top 10 players. Clay also, but by that time she won't be as fresh and won't be able to beat consecutive top seeds.
