Will Nikki Win A Slam Next Year? And If So, Which One?

my first answer is "yes".

my second answer would have to be the aussie.

look, the ao is a crapshoot. people are recovering or rehabbing from injuries, or whatever. no-one is focused. that's how serena won this year.

consider nikki's form right now. she's dangerous. she gave justine the toughest fight she's had this year. her serve is lethal. and her errors are dropping.

in a slam where everyone is testing their resolve in the new year, i think nikki will find a way to win.

nikki sexysova: ao champion '08! how's that sound to you guys?

no, and i think she never will, theres to many holes in her game and she isn't mentaly tough but i wouldn't mind her proving me wrong.

Maybe not next year - remember she is still young and has yet to win a Tier II/I. Probably mentally she isnt there yet and needs a Tier I win to boost her confidence, but her game has potential (as we have seen from her QF/SF Grand Slam appearances)

Re: Will Nikki Win A Slam Next Year? And If So, Which One?

YESSSS! She will win all 4 slams next year!!!

Australian Open mix-doubles final: Vaidisova/Devil def. Azarenka/Mirnyi
Rolland Garros mix-doubles final: Vaidisova/Lucifer def. Hantuchova/Nestor
Wimbledon mix-doubles final: Vaidisova/Satan def. Jankovic/J.Murray
US Open mix-doubles final: Vaidisova/Dickens def. V.Williams/B.Bryan

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

If she were playing Juniors..yes.

The current field is too strong.

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

If she does win one, I'd say it would have to be the US Open.

Why are people so bitchy?

Re: Will Nikki Win A Slam Next Year? And If So, Which One?

She doesn't really seem ready mentally to me, but I guess she could surprise. I would be quite shocked if she won a Slam next year though...

Sharapova / Bartoli / Azarenka / Rezaď
Cornet / Karatantcheva / Kirilenko
Safina / Dulko / Görges / Shvedova
Fedak / Czink / Harkleroad / Gallovits
Kleybanova / A.Bondarenko / Watson

Re: Will Nikki Win A Slam Next Year? And If So, Which One?

I fully expect Vaidisova to win a major title in the coming years, but like others, I believe 2008 is still too soon. The holes in her game are closing and the mental part of her game is getting better as well, but I don't expect her - or Ivanovic for that matter - to win a major until at least 2009. In the case of Vaidisova specifically, not until the second half of the 2009 season - almost two years from now.

The reason is simply the young kids still need more development time and the current crop of contenders is still in their prime (though some of them are in the back end of their prime). A player winning majors before her 20th birthday, as Sharapova did, is not going to happen as frequently as it once did. The sport is much more demanding than it was even ten years ago when Hingis won majors as a teenager and the field is much stronger.

But the good news is Vaidisova has proven she can give the top players very tough matches week in and week out. Having said that, the next step is too start beating them regularly. That is what I will be watching for from Vaidisova next season.

Aside from 6 or 7 players, who else can if we're talking experience/mental toughness being necessary? I think Vaidisova could win one next year, AO or USO possibly.
