Shahar Peer has finished her weird year...

Won't play Linz..

Such a strange year... IMO she could have done more than this, # 15-17 place is quite avarage, but she must start playing not only in the Slams & Miami... 2 QF in AO and US Open, and this SF in Miami...

She has one of the best mandatory results but one of the worst best 12 tournaments, she said she likes to play the "big" tournaments and that's why she isn't so successful in Tier II & III but it's a strange excuse.

I think next year would be better, JJ finished even lower the year when she was 20, and I hope Shahar would make the same amazing improvment like JJ.

Her serve is a joke, her forehand is shaky but she has fantastic backhand and net approaches precentages.

GO SHAHAR! PLEASE GO HIGHER AND HIGHER!

Its been another good year for Shahar, slowly but surely coming up.

Her serve really improved this year,
but its seems like her agressive attitude cooled off as the year went by.

New year, New start, and with more confidence in 2008 Shahar will be in the top 10 at least.

Re: Shahar Peer has finished her weird year...

It hasnt been as spectacular a year as somepeople would've hoped for, but she's gone the right way. I think consolidating her top 20 position at this early stage of her career is impressive. I'd be more concerned if she were top 25 rather than top 20. She's had two quarter-final appearances at the Slams, and has generally been consistent everywhere( apart from the early US hardcourt slump in the summer).

2007 has been very solid for Shahar. I think 2008 will be when she has to step it up. She needs to make that forehand a bit more compact and flatter and needs a more punchy second serve( get more kick rather than slice).

Her year 2007 will be remembered for her great showings at the Slams and in Miami. See you in 2008, Shahar

15-17 is fine for Shahar. I don't think she'd go any further up. She just doesn't have any serious weapons even comparing to Chakvetadze.

It was still a fantastic year I think...some unexpected results, although in some tournaments not in a positive way. She needs to toughen up her service games and the improvement trend should continue for 2008.

Goodbye WTA and Jelena. It was nice being your fan once.

Shahar should be really happy with her year. She has had a great year and hopefully it'll be better in 08'!

She started the year brilliantly and hopefully she'll be able to stay consistent and win more next year! She almost hit 50 wins!

Re: Shahar Peer has finished her weird year...

What I was primarily disappointed in was zero titles.

F - Memphis
SF - Gold Coast, Miami
QF - Sydney, Australian Open, Indian Wells, Eastbourne, US Open, Bangkok

Very solid year, even though her clay, grass, and most of her summer hardcourt results were dismal. It gives us hope for a much brighter 2008!

A lot of players would kill for Shahar's results from this year. I wish that she could tap into her inner Arantxa or Amanda Coetzer because her retrieving skills could move her into the Top 10. That isn't a dis by the way. Those few extra balls that Shahar gets to makes a big difference and frustrates her opponents. She doesn't have the most exciting game but I do find Shahar intriguing. Best of luck to her in 2008.

Re: Shahar Peer has finished her weird year...

It was a good year for Shahar, she played well in the big events.

Slightly disappointing in the last 2 weeks though as she's dropped off the pace a little bit. She had similar point totals to other players in the 13-16 range, but they all earned some big points in Moscow, whilst she bombed out in Thailand. Her first round loss in Zurich this week hurt her too, as some of those women are still earning points there.

Onwards and upwards in 08!
