Question Fathers

Why are the female players' fathers usually such dominant personalities?
Although many players' mothers are omnipresent during the tournaments, they tend to be rather shy and reserved. The fathers, on the other hand, are always very loud, aggressive or even choleric.
And why does this phenomenon only refer to the female players' fathers? Male players' fathers (and mothers) seem to be rather indifferent with regard to their sons' accomplishments.
Do you think that young men need their parents' support less than girls? Are men more independent and mature than girls?
I find this quite strange, but also very interesting. What do you think about the topic?

Hmm, good question. I think that the role of men is a more like "the lone wolf" or something. It's a display of strength to be independent and we men don't like to be seen as some kind of mothers child. But deep inside we want and need that, but the "world" is forcing us not to do so. On the other side girls seems more family orientated. They haven't got any problems to be close with their parents and especially with their mom. Moms are often like a "quiet and comfortable" hideout for them. But my experience told me, that mothers often care much more about the sons and fathers more about their daughters. Maybe it's not in general, but that's my point of view.

Exclamation Re: Fathers

@ Kampi: I remember that Sergi Bruguera's father was always present when his son played. However, I cannot think of any other example.

Wink Re: Fathers

@ turko: It means that the mothers are always among the spectators.

Re: Fathers

I think that this "aggressive fathers" stereotype are really only a small minority of the fathers of women players, but they tend to get a lot of publicity

Quiet fathers dont get any press so you never hear about them

Wink Re: Fathers

@ gaggleguy: Well, I also wonder if there's any rivalry between the players' fathers. For instance, I don't think that Mr. Williams likes Mr. Scharapow a lot.

Wink Re: Fathers

@ turko: Oh, I'm very sorry, ragazzo. Yes, you're probably right. Most fathers are very interested in their children's money. At least, they want their children to be rich and successful.

Wink Re: Fathers

@ turko: Well, that's good. However, fathers are generally not very prone to soft emotions. That's usually the mothers' job.
