Top Ten Players Should NOT Be Allowed to Play Tier IV Events!!

Does anyone else agree with this? It just seems really unfair that a top player can enter these events and dominate the field.

Re: Top Ten Players Should NOT Be Allowed to Play Tier IV Events!!

Venus wasn't top ten when she committed to play a Tier IV if that's what you're talking about.

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

Re: Top Ten Players Should NOT Be Allowed to Play Tier IV Events!!

I think its a fair thing but sometimes having a top 10 player does wonders for the event.

Also top 100 players shouldn't be allowed to play 25k's

Quit bitching! Seoul, Tokyo, Bangkok are so grateful for Ms. Venus flying across the world to play in their tournament. Venus is praticing and gathering points for YEC

Re: Top Ten Players Should NOT Be Allowed to Play Tier IV Events!!

If someone says this again

For the last time, she entered the event BEFORE she won Wimbledon, she was ranked much, much lower when she entered. If she would have pulled out, everyone would have been so angry with her saying she that she let the fans down, she has no class, she doesn't stand by her committments, etc.

she'll be criticized if she does play or criticized if she doesn't play with some people, she can never win.

...btw, I know that wasn't the case with Tokyo, but she wasn't just going to stay a week in Asia in between Seoul and Bangkok doing nothing.

Venus is afraid to compete with the likes of Henin.

Re: Top Ten Players Should NOT Be Allowed to Play Tier IV Events!!

I think these threads are getting lamer by the minute.

Seriously, what if Venus were the #1 player in the world when she made this schedule? She still should be able to play in the tournaments. Logic informs us that, if a top 10 player continuously plays lower tiered tourneys, the top 10 player is not going to be a top 10 player for longer anyway. The lack of points wouldn't allow it.

Venus was hardly in the top 50 when she committed to a Tier IV.

Tier threes are fine but I think a top tenner should be banned from tier fours.
I think its great that Venus is honouring her commitments though.

Re: Top Ten Players Should NOT Be Allowed to Play Tier IV Events!!

While I am sad that I don't get to see Vee playing other top players at the other tournaments, I think it's great that she is playing *period*.

It makes the tournament a bit dull, in that the winner seems set from the get go...but (a) it helps the tourney's attendance and (b) you never know if one of these journeywomen or up and comers will be able to claim their first big win.

Re: Top Ten Players Should NOT Be Allowed to Play Tier IV Events!!

The threads on this board are getting dumber and dumber. So what if Venus was a top 10...top..5 or top whatever? She (and ALL tennis players) can enter any tournament she wants (assuming she qualifies). Without some bonafide superstar, most of these lower tiered tournaments would fall flat economically.

They actually are banned to play them. People are forgetting that Bangkok and Tokyo are Tier III and everybody can play them. Venus played in Seoul because she was ranked out of the Top 10 when the commitment list was out. She (and Seoul) were lucky as in the next rankings (after US Open) she entered the Top 10
