Well I think that if you look at her results this year, she's done well at quite a few tournaments. It's her slam results that are letting her down. If she had a couple of semis or quarters in there, she could be ranked around 5-6 I think.
Casey Dellacqua, Jelena Jankovic, Anna-Lena Groenefeld,
Jelena Dokic, Mirjana Lucic, Sara Tomic, Sloane Stephens
Melanie Oudin, Kiki Bertens, Kaia Kanepi, Alison Riske
The problem I have with Hantuchova is that TO ME she doesn't have any significant weapon. She doesn't serve big and what she does for power groundies, the top 5 players will do it better. She's 5'11" I wish she would beef up her serve and stop serving with Eastern Grip like 1930s~
The only way anyone makes top 5 is by making quarterfinals of grand slams. Doesn't matter how well Daniela does on tour, even if she'd won all the finals she's been in this year that's only +135 points more - it's all about the slams. If Dani was making Grand Slam QFs on a regular basis combined with her form this year she'd be around the top 5 but she's made 372 pts from slams this year when if you want to be top 5 you should be looking at close to 1,000 pts. That's the minimum requirement.
The worst record in the top 8 at slams this year is 15-4 (JJ & Anna C), Daniela is 8-4, she has to improve dramatically. The worst win %age on tour in the top 8 is .758 (Ivanovic), Daniela is .652, she has the results she has (3 finals, 5 other semis) because of the amount of tournaments she has played - she has still lost in her first match in 5 tournaments this year and you cannot do that and expect to make top 5.
The difference between her season now and her season in 2002 is in 2002 she only played one tournament below Tier II so even though she made less semifinals and finals they were all at higher events and she made many more quarterfinals on top of that and two of those were grand slams - that's the springboard you need, big title win, consistency and most importantly good results at slams. The yearly period she was #5 she had 3 Grand Slam QFs and a 4th round at the French - she's not made a QF since. Until she does she will never reach the top 5 again.
Are you a raving mental case with awesome groundstrokes? I'll probably like you...
