Do you think Monica is determined to come back because she wants to win Wimbledon?

Monica is already an all time great, no question there. I feel, however, that not winning Wimbledon is quite a big blip on her greatness. I feel that she would have won it in 1994 had it not been for the stabbing. She has at least two titles at all the slams, except Wimbledon. She has only ever once made the final there. If you read her book, you'll see she wants to win Wimbledon quite a lot.

Do you think tha's why she's so eager to come back? Who knows if she can do it? I mean, Marion Bartoli got to the finals this year, so of course Monica can!

I doubt she really cares about Wimbledon. She's done enough

People who think Monica and Jennifer Capriati are coming back on tour are either fanatics who read into things too much or brilliant psychologists/Nostradamus' second coming. I haven't made my mind up yet.

i dont know if this is right, but i heard she skipped wimby once and it was not supposed to be due to injury? im not quite sure though. monica had nerves of steel i thought it was tragic that her career had, at one point, been destroyed in the hands of a man she didnt even know at the time.

Re: Do you think Monica is determined to come back to win Wimbledon?

The above poster is right: it's getting a little like the belief in Jesus's Second Coming - they're STILL waiting.

Monica Seles is not delusional, and therefore, at almost 34 years of age, having not played competitively in almost five years, I think the chances of her coming back are remote to say the least. I think Seles is probably more concerned about whether her body could hold up for one match, let alone win Wimbledon!

Secondly, who says Monica is so eager to come back? When did she say this?

If that were so, what has been stopping her all these years? Her injuries have been stopping her, and will continue to do so.

a) I'm not sure she IS determined to come back. It's been a long time, and she's been healthy enough to play exos for years.

b) The exos she's playing aren't in any way Wimbledon-level prep. She's not playing on grass, and she's playing a 50 year old serve-and-volley player. How is that going to prepare her for Venus? (A player she's 1-9 lifetime against.)

Re: Do you think Monica is determined to come back because she wants to win Wimbledon

The next time Jesus comes back is when the world ends, so we shouldn't be waiting. We should enjoy life right now.

Anyway, Monica is not going to come back. Full stop. She is 34 and even if she did come back, she will not win Wimbledon.

Monica ...wants to win Wimbledon?

And what if she comes back as a coach? Anyone ever think about that prospect? Marion Bartoli could certainly benefit. Or if we're stuck on Monica returning as a player, how about if she comes back and gives women's doubles some star quality for a change? The only other marquee doubles players of note are the Williams sisters, and they just don't play often enough to be a true doubles drawing card. Maybe a Seles/Capriati doubles team might be fun. I've seen Monica play doubles in the past, and while she does stay at the baseline, her return of serve and groundie disguise are pretty effective, and with half a court to cover, the 34 age barrier wouldn't even be an issue. Hell, if she loves the game and wants to play, who am I to say where or when she gets back out there.

There is nothing more beautiful than Evonne Goolagong in full flight moving across a tennis court.

Even if she did come back, it wouldn't be to win Wimbledon. Let's try to be somewhat realistic here. The chances that she'd win another slam at all would be extremely small, let alone on her worst surface.
